Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Happy 5th Birthday Switch! (Your Top Fives)

What year did you get your Switch?

Year one 42 77.78%

Year two 4 7.41%

Year three 0 0%

Year four 3 5.56%

Year five 2 3.70%

Can you believe the Switch is 5 years old? I don’t know about you, but I still feel like it’s brand new hardware and that the best is yet to come. That might be because Metroid Prime 4 hasn’t released, but it’s also because for the first time I feel like Nintendo developers and developers that develop for Nintendo platforms have confidence in the system and the health of its software sales and will continue, at least for the next few years to deliver great experiences.

But enough of the future, let’s talk about the past  What are you too 5 Switch games?  What about your top 5 indie titles? Top 5 multiplayer games? Let’s make lists of our favorite things about the Switch  choose your own adventure and let us know the reasons you love Nintendo’s little hybrid and their current third best selling piece of hardware all time.

Prior to Covid the Switch was on pace to be my favorite system of all time but the past two years were pretty poor. 2022 and beyond looks fantastic, so it can still get in the running for my favorite system of all time by the end of its lifecycle. Fire Emblem was my biggest surprise on the system, I've never played another Fire Emblem game before as they didn't really look up my alley, but I was blown away by it and wished I would have played older games in the series. Bug Fables is hands down my favorite indie game, and I would love it if Nintendo would buy Moonsprout games and have them make future Paper Mario games.

i don't have a great amount of time to play games, so i've got a pretty hefty backlog going back to the wii even. so i didn't get a switch until 2020, and still haven't finished a lot of games on it yet. but i'm loving the switch itself! possibly my favourite piece of hardware ever.

this would probably be my unranked top 5 at the moment, out of the games i've played (not including my top 3 goat which ARE available on the switch; botw (wii u), okami (wii) and xenoblade chronicles (wii)):

- spiritfarer
- hades
- xenoblade chronicles 2
- age of calamity
- astral chain

lots of honorable mentions:
fenyx rising
link's awakening
octopath traveler
super mario maker 2
yooka-laylee and the impossible lair
no more heroes 3
eastward
super mario odyssey
undertale

also, i haven't tried metroid dread or monster hunter rise yet, both of which are possible future contenders for my top 5.
