Good PS5 sales, but the software sales to go with it don't seem to be there, anyone understand what is going on?

possibly a combination of comparativly low demand of PS5 domestically and much lower prices compared to ROTW (japanese prices of consoles are around 10-15% cheaper then US, the second cheapest, while it includes tax when us doesn't) and massive scalping overseas.

there is also the secondary factor of famitsu not tracking digital, and the fact that many PS4 games right now offer free upgrades to PS5 versions when the PS4 version is same price or even cheaper then the PS5 version. why would you get the PS5 version?

This has been the topic of the most discussion on the threads.

There are many possibilities, but it's mostly just speculative. Many units that are sold in Japan are being shipped abroad, we don't know how many.

Digital might have increased alot, or not. We don't really know.

Some people might just play PS4 games on it and bought the hardware in anticipation of future releases.

Poor Fatal Frame, despite this being one of the higher performances for the series, it deserves so much better than this.

Metroid Dread deserves better legs than that. But at least with digital it should be higher than Fusion.

With digital included it is actually the biggest 1st week ever for the series. That plus what seems to be pretty strong western performance for a niche series should be enough to convince Koei Tecmo to make Fatal Frame 6, as well as to do more remasters of old ones, which they recently said they want to do.

I sincerely hope so; I really enjoyed the series entries on Wii and Wii U and would love to see them make Fatal Frame 6.

With this week third parties have surpassed 8 million sales across the Top 50 unofficial third party ranking.

The big titles left for the year are Shin Megami Tensei V which should allow Atlus to enter the ranking. Power Pro Kun, which initially looked like a potential surprise hit but hasn't really garnered much interest, so it remains to be seen how it does. GTA Trilogy is the final "big" third party title of the year releasing physically in December - we still don't know who is publishing it in Japan.

Due to many titles likely to experience strong sales on the Switch during the holidays we are likely looking at at least 10 million sales across the Top 50 Third Party titles with over 85% of these sales coming on the Switch I don't forsee much movement for the PS4/PS5 for the remainder of the year, nothing really on the horizon that can reach 100K sales.

Last year there were 65 Third Party titles in the Top 100 of Famitsu, they achieved over 8.7 million sales with around 55% of sales being on a the Switch. Next year we can expect more of the same with further decline of franchises exclusive to the PS4/PS5 as the PS4 active user-base further declining.

Top 10 Third Party Publishers(Famitsu Top 100 2020):

  1. Konami - 1.821.772
  2. Square Enix - 1.557.913
  3. Bandai Namco - 1.319.357
  4. Microsoft - 633.776
  5. Koei Tecmo - 610.227
  6. Sega - 404.529
  7. Capcom - 404.529
  8. Atlus - 375.003
  9. Marvelous - 192.681
  10. Cygames - 127.566

Capcom will see the biggest growth YoY - likely around 600% as it's likely they would be well beyond 3 million at years end.

The other publisher with huge YoY gains will be Marvelous I expect them to land with over 600K sales so over 200% growth, still a missed opportunity they could have seen far more growth if Olive Town & Rune Factory 5 weren't rushed out the door.

Konami, Microsoft & Sega will see more moderate growth of 10-30%. Atlus will probably end up flat or slightly worse off compared to last year.

While Bandai & Koei will see a decline in their fortunes of 10-30%.

The biggest decline YoY will be felt by Square Enix as they decline over 60% due to a lack of hit games this year.

From week 45 to week 52 in 2020, the Switch sold 1.55m. I am hoping with Pokemon it can do it again for a clean total of about 5.9m YTD.

Every week in 2020 was over 100k, with the last 4 weeks being over 200k.

It has to be remembered there wasn't a chip shortage in 2020 like there is now though.

That's true, though it is only 1.5m loss of about 17.5m expected, bringing it to about 16m.  All things equal, that is an 8% loss. So 92% of 1.55m is 1.43m.
