Forums - Sales - Global Hardware August 15-21 - PS5 Sales Top 11 Million

Interested in seeing if Xbox can sell 11 million consoles this year. 10 million is done at this point, it's on track beat 360's 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2012 and it's ahead of all of the Xbox One years too (Xbox One sold 5.47 million consoles between September and December 2015, which was its best year).

Edit with more data: from January 2015 to the first day of September 2015, Xbox One sold 2.97 million units. Series is going to sell 4 million in the same period.

Switch so close to 90 mil
3DS so close, yet so far from 76 mil

I understand that EU is PS5's strongest market and these are only estimates but its gap with Switch seems quite large.
How do these weekly numbers compare to PS4's first year in EU?

In Europe, people have PlayStation tatoos on their arms.

Relatively speaking, Xbox Series S/X is exploding in Japan. It somehow sold about half as much as the PS5 there this week. Nintendo is still dominating Japan as they have since the DS and Wii days. But it's interesting to see Microsoft not be in as distant of third place as usual.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Xbox Series X|S has a very good chance to outsell lifetime Xbox One sales in Japan by the end of this year. I don't see the Xbox Series X|S getting close to Nintendo or PlayStation. But it is nice to see it with a little bit of life.

I think it has a shot at 1m.

So, Switch should be over 90 million by next update.

3DS was discontinued some time ago and it's final shipment as per Nintendo was 75.94 million.

The numbers we're seeing each weeks are just the last dregs of that shipment slowly trickling out.

Incredible slow decline for the XB1 last 2 years. Most consoles in their last years sells 80-100k weekly the one year, sells 20k weekly next year and 2-3k weekly the year after. XB1 was selling 40-50k weekly in 2019, selling 20-30k weekly 2020 and is selling 10-20k weekly this year. This is good pace of decline for dying console.

It helps that Microsoft is pushing Game Pass than an actual piece of hardware now. Plus the announcement that Series X|S games can be played on previous hardware through Game Pass is huge.

When you're in a lower place to begin with, there's less room to fall.
