30/30 for Switch once again.

Around the Network

Truly some impressive software dominance.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is this week, so in the next numbers it will likely chart in the top 10. So no Switch top 30 the next week.

30/30 for Switch once again.

Japanese devs look this and think:  "We need to skip Switch in our games"

Momotaro is a beast

Me thinking Switch will just barely pass 6 million this year with new model + much stronger Fall lineup than last year. Well gone are the days of people predicting 6.5m or 7m for Switch this year haha

I dont think 6.5 million is out of the question yet with OLED and Pokemon.

Damn I didn't log on to the forums for a week and a half and the switch has two 30/30 weeks in a row, nice.

Honestly really surprised that Sony couldn't even increase stock to Japan during a holiday week. To me this is concerning for the upcoming winter holiday season.

I think it's due to switching production lanes for the OLED model. It all depends on if Nintendo can produce enough of those for the holiday season to make up for the lost supply during this time

In Japan it's likely that at the end of the year Switch maintains close to 90% of the Third Party Software sales. Right now there is only 6 PS4/PS5 games in the Top 30, but very soon the bar to get into the Top 30 is going beyond 60K sales. There are many games that haven't been updated in a long time that are likely continuing to sell very strongly outside the numbers Famitsu has provided. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch versions of Little Nightmares 2, Sakuna & Age of Calamity to be near 100K right now, while Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Family Trainer, Densha de Go!!, Apex Legends, Pro Baseball 2020, Disgaea 6, Jack Jeanne could all be between 40-70K.

By the end of the year the games on the PS4 there would five to seven titles to surpass 100K, in the 200K and over range there would be two to three, while no PS4 game is likely to surpass 300K physical this year. Compared to past systems this will be a huge fall for the PS4 YOY, I don't think we've ever seen a legacy system become irrelevant so quickly, PS3 Software in 2015 were still close over 3 million; it's a comparable situation to PSV

For the PS5 the situation with Third Party Software is such that I'm having huge doubts if total sales on the system would be surpassing 400K for the year, the only chance PS5 has to have a 100K+ third party seller this year is Tales of Arise, and I would be surprised if it happens. There doesn't appear to be 700K hardware sold to Japanese owners; to me such a horrible performance for games on a system has to do with the actual size of the audience. I don't think more than 200K Japanese actually own the system, it's getting resold overseas for a profit. Also there is not much to really offer to the audience, so far the only new games have been Resident Evil: Village and Scarlet Nexus, FFVII Remake Integrade. On a 200K userbase RE: Village would be over 25% attach rate, which to me seems to be more realistic based on past trends where we saw much higher physical sales even for X360.

X360 Top Selling Games 2005-2006

  9. Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft) - 25.058
  10. Culdcept Saga (Bandai Namco) - 23.947

TOTAL: 578.779

TOTAL HARDWARE X360 2005-2006: 290.467

Based on the Software sales of the released games on the PS5 so far we are likely looking at less than 300K physical software sales and a userbase of around 200K, in my opinion the rest of the units have been resold overseas - hence Software isn't performing at the level I would expect for 600K PS5s which supports physical software.

If your theory is true, then once the chip crunch is resolved the PS5 sales in Japan should nosedive a lot. We'll see how this hold up, but I fear you could be right.

So, now the Switch had done it not once. But twice!

How many times did the Famicom do it, does anyone know?
