The Evil has been defeated.

Good sales, but Switch hardware is down 21.7% from last year's Q1, think last year was probably the peak for Switch.

A couple of takeaways:

Switch falls just short of 90 million in this quarter. At 4.45 million units in Q1 of this fiscal year, it is already trailing last fiscal year by 1.22 million after the Q1 of last year did 5.67 million units.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now just a mere 300k away from tying Mario Kart Wii for the best selling Mario Kart single SKU in franchise history. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also widened its gap over Animal Crossing New Horizons for best selling Nintendo Switch game. Sorry, Animal Crossing fans, but it looks like it's going to fall just short. Mario is still the king.

Smash Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Party are all selling at around the same pace. With Super Mario Party passing 15 million, it should have a very good shot of reaching 20 million some time next year. That should be a very good sign for Mario Party Superstars.

Pokemon Sword/Shield continues its steady march towards Gold/Silver for the 2nd best selling Pokemon games of all time. At its current pace, it should pass Gold/Silver just in time for the release of Bright Diamond/Shining Pearl. (So much for the boycott.)

Ring Fit Adventure, I mean just wow.

Here's an interesting tidbit:

According to Nintendo, sales for the regular Switch model are actually up from last year. It's the Switch Lite that's WAY down. Bringing overall Switch sales down in the process.

Hardware
5.68 mil units -> 4.45 mil units -21.7 %

Nintendo Switch 3.05 mil units -> 3.31 mil units +8.3 %

Nintendo Switch Lite 2.62 mil units ->1.14 mil units -56.7 %

Honestly, the Switch OLED really should be replacing the Lite model while the regular Switch model gets a price cut.

But we've been told here the Switch was used as a portable 90% of the time, that doesn't make any sense

New software releases:

New Pokemon Snap - 2.07 million

Mario Golf: Super Rush - 1.34 million (Just 5 days in and it's already 130k away from passing the original N64 game for the best selling game in THAT series. The power of the Switch Effect!!!)

Miitopia - 1.04 million

Probably owes to a few factors ... last year a lot of people couldn't find a regular Switch so they settled for the Switch Lite and also kids being out of school due to COVID shut downs probably had parents scrambling to find things to keep their kids occupied with ... Switch Lite probably filled that void. This year you can find the normal Switch model without much fuss so given a choice most people probably choose the regular Switch.

It seems like the appeal of the "compact/cheap model" probably has been overstated too, modern consumers just don't find that type of thing very appealling. You even see it with smartphones, most people don't want to the lower-end/smaller/budget iPhone for example.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe outselling Mario Kart Wii on its own without even including sales of the original version is something that a few years ago I don't think anyone thought was possible, yet here it is so close that it's probably already happened by now. So incredibly impressive. I wish Nintendo would expand their top million sellers list to include 15 or 20 games now that there are just SO many games here. The fact that there are now multiple 10 million sellers that just aren't given updates now is kinda ridiculous lol.
