I think that people are just getting Xboxes cause they can't find a PS4 anywhere. We'll see if Sony regrets giving them a foothold.

You guys forget how undesirable a console XBOX One was, especially at launch. XB1 could never build any momentum because it was clear they didn't care one bit about the Japanese market. Late launch in Japan, forced kinect, missing features, etc.

Honestly, there is a very real possibility that Xbox Series beats Xbox One lifetime in Japan by the end of 2021. 22 weeks left in the year to sell 47.3k consoles averages out to 2,150 per week needed by Xbox Series. Xbox Series has sold anywhere from 1k to 4.6k over the course of the last 6 weeks. If MS can keep up these larger shipments, and if demand holds, Xbox Series might just do it. Afterall, there is still the Holiday effect and the releases of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite to take into account, plus some big 3rd party games coming over the next several months, both western franchises that are fairly popular in Japan and JP games. |
I think Xbox Series can do it. 2,150 per week seems doable.
Of course, as long as Microsoft doesn't screw it up and keeps the supply coming. Who knows, maybe we are still going to see a 5k+ week for Xbox Series in Japan.
Just posted the top 30 in the original post. In a week with a 9% increase in hardware, nearly all the Switch evergreens had 20%+ increase in sales. Does that seem odd to anyone else? Typically these software bumps coincide with a similar hardware bump.

Aside from Gamepass, likely the same forces which are causing PS5 hardware sales to be disproportionately bigger than its software sales in japan |
Damn, scalpers strike again!

Yeah, but we need to see the big hitters, likewise DS and Gameboy. The spectrum and diversity of the public maybe have some of the influence on evergreens sales.

Last year had a bump like that.
Maybe people are already holding off to get the OLED Switch. I originally thought it would only start in September. Who knows?

It's funny how Microsoft is among the top publishers on the chart and not Sony.
