Forums - Nintendo - "The Switch's Growing Third Party Problem" is the worst VGChartz article ever

john Lucas once wrote an article for this site claiming Sony was going to discontinue the PS3 in 2007. So no, that is still the worst.

Yeah but they eventually did discontinue the 2006 PS3, didn't they ?

Yes quickrick wrote it gj on finding out

It's actually ryusaki57 who wrote it. Anybody who's been around the forums for a while knows how much his opinion of anything Nintendo related is worth.

What's funny is that as I was reading the OP, the thought that ryusaki57 being the author crossed my mind.  It really highlights an author's track record when a correlation as to who wrote it is so obvious, and I will leave it at that.

Any writer can write anything he/she wants to write and publish it ?

The empathetic person in me doesn't wish for any game writer to get insulted, no matter how ridiculous their thoughts may or may not be. It's a hard thing, writing and publishing content for others to read and criticize. Making it all the harder is attaching your own opinions to said writing as you are exposing yourself for the sake of generating discussion. Without opinions an article is boring to most, so we risk it all by putting our opinions in. At the risk of self-deprecation, I'd like to share an article I wrote in which I had some/many opinions that were not shared by this community:

I don't share this to invite criticism, by the way. Just to serve a reminder that we all have opinions that most people would disagree with and sometimes those manifest in writings for all to see.

I think the problem is not so much his opinion, so much as blatant misinformation to twist things to fit his narrative.  For example, comparing MH Rise sales so far to MH World lifetime is such an obvious stretch to downplay a 3rd party exclusive for Nintendo.  Had he done time from release aligned, a much different picture would have been painted.  It would have been much more accurate, but no longer fit his narrative.

As for what you say, you are correct.  Being a writer can be hard and tiresome.  I used to do it myself for LensOfTruth back in the day, so I can relate to not wanting to be hard on someone's opinion.  But I believe the bigger issue here is misinformation, which is hardly the same thing as hating his opinion.

I don't insult him (or at least, that's absolutely not what I am intending to do - if it's the case, I am deeply sorry, I didn't mean to do so).

As stated in the beginning, I am an admirer of this kind of (somehow) bold takes. And of course Switch's 3rd party support isn't stellar.

But don't twist facts, omits elements and compare two very different things to make false assumptions and conclusions based on easily verifiable stuff, especially topics which are discussed everyday here.

I mean, who would've dare to state that the next-gen appetite is greater than for the Switch and use launch-aligned sales comparisons ? Is he even trying to imply that the Series X will sell more than the Switch just to make it fit its narrative ?

He wasn't talking about a single SKU but throwing in the towel for the entire console that early in the generation.

That didn't happen...

That article needs to be taken down if this site wants to keep its credibility.
