Yeah Nintendo definitely missed an opportunity to bolster the Wii's last years by not giving proper localized releases to not only the Rainfall trio but also Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition; I feel like if all 4 had gotten well advertised global releases in 2011-2012 the Wii would be better remembered. They really dropped the ball after a phenomenal first four years.

That was Reggie's doing, we in europe got these games localized. That time was the only time as a european gamer we didn't got the short end of the stick. Monolith's game prior to Xenpobla, Disaster: Day of Crisis also came to europe.

I'm a PAL gamer myself so I was one of the fortunate ones, but even here they got basically zero advertising. If they'd come out in NA at the same time as PAL and Nintendo had actively pushed them I really think it would've helped the Wii remain a relevant platform just through seeming less abandoned.

At any rate, Nintendo's gotten a lot better in this regard so it doesn't look like Switch is headed for a similar scenario.

Manufacturing the end of a generation is something Nintendo had done from the beginning. The Wii isn’t the only console they messed up with, the SNES could have gone strong for 2-3 more years as well. The funny thing is the generational transitions worked A LOT better when they kept up support past the beginning of the following generation: NES to SNES, and GBA to DS are two good examples.

With the Switch, they could do this even better by releasing most of their software as dual-tier for X-years while they transition between generations. Some games will obviously require the Switch 2 as the minimum requirement, but I doubt that’s going to be the majority of them for years to come. Probably until 720/1080p TV is no longer the International standard. But, essentially, the dual-tier games means later adopters are more likely to update because they’ve already been investing in the Switch ecosystem.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

As much as I'm not enthusiastic about the crossgen strategy you propose, I must admit PS5 and Xbox Series are proving it can be successful commercially. I'd probably forego Switch 2 such a scenario until Switch 1 support dried up, and I'd still rather Switch 2 not come until 2023 at the earliest.

I don't think waiting until 1998-1999 to release the N64 would've been a good idea though, PS1 and Saturn would then have gotten 4-5 years head start and the PS2 and Xbox would be around the corner.

I'm sorry, what trolling? We need to act like Nintendo is doing us a favour each time they decide to screw us over.

We haven't been screwed over. Nintendo never promised a more powerful Switch revision, and most folks are clearly fine with the Switch's graphics or it wouldn't be selling as well as it is.

The OLED is the 3DS XL or PSP-3000 of the Switch family. It's not Nintendo's fault if people believed clickbait Youtubers and fake leakers claiming it was going to be a Pro.

Ok after laughing about this mediocre update I'm considering getting one

I'm giving my Switch to my cousin, his birthday is in September and my aunt just can't buy one herself

I have too much backlog to just stop gaming on Switch (although lately PS4 has been my main platform)

The problem is there is not sign of OLED model released in Brazil. I don't know whether I wait until it's officially released or if I will just buy the standard version

I'm on the fence now to be honest... Mostly because the chances I can be deployed overseas to fight fires over the coming years is increasing... Last time was the USA a few years ago, but this season seems unprecedented.

Sad part is I would need to ditch all my Zelda accessories, maybe even the battery life extender.

The 7" display is what I wanted in the Switch on release... Because in 2017 my phone had a larger+higher resolution+OLED panel, Switch is part way there...

The flip side is, while I am home, the Switch never leaves the dock... Heck I don't even touch it unless there is a Zelda game to be played.
