1. Breath of the Wild - Exploring in this game is just incredibly compelling, I really enjoy the sense of discovery that I get while playing, and I love how you can interact with the environment in many different ways. I also love all the flexibility that there is in terms of how you can engage enemies. There's also some really creative puzzle ideas inside the shrines and, while the side quests could've been better, the Shrine Quests are one of my favorite aspects of the game.

2. Ocarina of Time - This was my first Zelda. This game has really good pacing which helps to make it really engaging, there's nothing that feels like a chore or filler. The dungeons and boss battles are very well designed, and the game overall gives you a good sense of adventure even with its relatively small overworld. While its highs are not neccessarily as high as other games of the series, it's overall a very well rounded experience.

3. Skyward Sword - This game's dungeons and areas ouside the dungeons are just so very well designed, with some of the most brilliant puzzle designs in the series. The items are very creative and are used in many interesting ways. I also found the combat to be very engaging, and the boss battles are pretty great (Koloktos is my favorite boss in the series). The story and characters are very compelling and memorable. which makes them my favorites in the series.

4. Majora's Mask - A very memorable and unique experience thanks to its atmosphere, its setting (different from the usual Hyrule) and, of course, the whole idea of the three days system, which helps to make the game feel alive and allows for some really fleshed out side quests, which feel like the true stars of the show in this game. The NPCs are just my favorites in the series.

5. Twilight Princess - This game has some of the most well designed dungeons and boss battles in the series, with some really cool item ideas, for example, the spinner and the double clawshot (which are some of the best in the whole series imo). Another highlight of the game is Midna, who has some really well done character development and a very likeable personality. The game overall gives a good sense of being in an epic adventure.

Ocarina of time. It’s the only 3D adventure I’ve beaten 7 times. I enjoyed every level, every moment. Every sunrise, every race back and forth. Every attempt to figure something out, every fail and every success. I rested every place I could to enjoy its music and scenery. I attempted to best every challenge to buy and find every notable item. It was morrowind to me before there was morrowind. It was a second life of adventure.

Wind waker is my second choice but traveling by boat was not equal to traveling by horse. I completed it 3 times.

Twilight princess’s dungeons were great. I almost completed it.

Majora’s mask is too frustrating. I almost completed it.

I played a lot of the 2D zeldas but don’t care for them anymore.

No breath of the wild for me. I don’t game by myself anymore. If only I had a friend who wanted to join me, then I’d be all for it.

BOTW, my top 3 is BOTW, ALTTP and OoT

For BOTW 2 I hope to play with Zelda, give me Zelda and I'm happy

Plus I want to actually learn how to fight this time around, I've beaten BOTW 3 times now (technically just 2, as I stopped during my third playthrough) and still not able to fully master all the combos, target/lock ons and repels/counterattacks. Everytime I fight I feel like a noob who just farmed enough to get fancy gears/weapons

These are brilliant games but Breath of the wild is the best adventure of all time for me

Ok for the sake of argument, I am voting based on traditional Zelda games. BotW is a game I absolutely love, one of my favorite games of all time. However I don't feel right putting it up against the others being so different (despite being inspired by Zelda 1).

So with that, A Link to the Past is the pinnacle of the traditional formula. It set the ground work for the traditional formula far more than Ocarina ever did, and is densely packed with content. My favorite 3D Zeldas from the traditional formula would have to be Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask. Right behind them is Skyward Sword (so yes I am excited to play that again on Switch).

Ocarina of Time even made the series a lot more puzzle focused, I mean really the puzzles in A Link to the Past are super basic, and that's like an entire third of what Zelda is known for nowadays (though honestly, looking back on it, you could kind of see Link's Awakening as the title which made the "traditional" formula more puzzle oriented?).

I thought the Thieves' Town dungeon (the one where you have to unmask Blind, the dungeon boss) was pretty innovative in its time, and more memorable than any puzzle I saw in Ocarina. The whole dungeon was the puzzle.

As a top 3

Breath of the Wild is my favorite, followed by Wind Waker, both encapsulate the feeling of having an adventure the best, and that is the main reason why I love them so much.

Then it would be Majora's Mask, which I love more for the personal stuff rather than the adventure, with all the side quests and people you meet, the build up to the dungeons (except for Great Bay), Ikana Valley being one of Zelda's best sections overall.

Bonus: I'm hoping for a Majora's Mask to Breath of the Wild, in the sense that it does something completely different and weird as a follow-up.

Can't beat the original. It has the freedom level of BotW with better combat and better dungeons.

Bonus: My hope for BotW2 is that it keeps the overworld and physics engine of BotW while adding several dungeons that were as cool as Hyrule Castle. My expectation, however, is that it won't be as good as BotW.

If you had given this opinion on any Nintendo game that was getting a sequel, about, 5 or 6 six years ago I would have agreed with you. But right now, despite all the success and record profits, Nintendo is in a position where they can't fuck up anymore. They only have one system on which their whole business is dependent on. Therefore, in my mind at least, their main games have to be great. I do think that is the very reason why they are being so careful with Metroid Prime's development. A new big budget Metroid must be great.

So yeah, I think and, I hope you're wrong on BTW2.  I think it's at least going to be as good as the original.

A Link to The Past. One of my top 10 games of all time. The action, pacing, dungeons and level design are on all point. What makes the game is the gameplay, which is super fun and satisfying to play. Definitely a game that stands the tests of time, many years after release.

I couldn't get into the 3D Zeldas so can't comment on those.

I would love it if Nintendo developed this attitude.  However, I have never seen this from them in the past.  When they feel like an underdog, then they will make some of the best games ever conceived.  When they feel they can't lose...that is exactly when the crap starts coming.  At least that is their track record with home consoles.  However, they have a very consistent track record with handhelds, so I might be wrong on this one.  I hope you are right and the next Zelda is fantastic.  I really want Nintendo to prove me wrong.

As odd as it may sounds to many, but my favorite is still Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

I love the RPG aspects of the game, and the duels with the knights (which incidentally made me hate A link to the Past for a long time as the knights are total wimps there compared to Zelda II). The difficulty didn't throw me off (For reference, I played Wizardry before, the inspiration for the Etrian Odyssey series), just the translation made it sometimes very hard to find stuff in the towns (or town themselves, hello new Kasuto!).

I probably rank BotW as second and the original Zelda as third
