Watching Corner Gas. Classic of Canadian comedy. ^^

I watched iHostage today, wth. It came up on Netflix recommendations, didn't look like much but I have lived in Amsterdam for a decade so thought it would at least be nice to see the city again. Which was indeed the only positive of the whole train wreck of a movie. The only reason I 'sat' through most of it is because the weather was too shitty today to do my workout outside, so I did it while watching. After the dumbest movie climax ever I turned it off.

To my surprise it turns out to be based on true events:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/23/amsterdam-hostage-who-helped-end-siege-praised-for-bravery

The way the crisis ended—with a police vehicle running down the gunman—sparked controversy across the Netherlands. “The hostage incident sparked intense public debate in the Netherlands, mainly because of the unconventional way the police brought the situation to an end—by using a car. It was a unique and highly decisive act of violence, the result of a split-second decision made by one of the special forces operators,” says Boermans. “A video of the final moments went viral almost immediately after, and the entire country began discussing it. Some people applauded the action, while others were more hesitant or conflicted about how it was handled.”

Authorities investigated the officer who struck the suspect and decided not to press charges. The Public Prosecution Service later stated that the officer acted appropriately and would not face criminal charges. The identity of the man taken hostage and his condition were not, at that point, revealed.

Made even less sense in the movie as he was wearing explosives while holding a dead man's trigger when getting run down. Anyway it doesn't change the terrible acting, terrible pacing and overall bad directing. But the opening shots of Amsterdam are nice.

And to make it worse, no motive ever explained or found out. Waste of time.

The Accountant 2: Despite the awesome trailer, I thought the first film was just okay. The sequel is a significant improvement, mainly due to a wittier script and a larger outstanding performance by Jon Bernthal. Would watch a third film if it brings more of this.

Watching the Batman TAS episode Fear of Victory. Pretty scary for a show marketed towards kids, but that's to be expected from an episode with Scarecrow.

I forgot to mention The Last of Us, I've been watching the second season. The show is incredibly well done. These post-apocalyptic shows are getting better and better. It has become a genre I've really changed my mind on.
(Note, television shows, not film. Some of my favourite films of all time are post-apocalyptic, and books & video games too).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Saw Thunderbolts. Other than the fate of one character, whom I won't name because of spoilers, I loved it!! ^^

Recently watched "Day of the Jackal" on SkyShowtime - the first 3-4 episodes were good but the entire thing took a tumble around episode 5 and I more or less forced myself to finish the show.

I've also watched "The Last of Us" season 2, or what's been released of it. It's not bad, but the drop-off from season 1 is significant. Some of the changes from the games are welcome, others are questionable, it appears a bit confused at the moment. In no way would I condone the harsh words flung by some at Kaitlyn Dever, but I do feel that Abby is rather badly miscast. Dever lacks the intimidation factor of the character - no amount of brilliant facial mimics and punchy line delivery can replace sheer physical stature. Dever is a brilliant actress, her work in Dopesick alone is some of the best I've seen, but she's completely wrong as Abby, in my opinion.

There have been a lot of great moments and episodes in Andor, but S2E8 is some of the rawest, realest television I've ever seen, let alone in Star Wars.

Spoiler!
Really captures the spirit of a lot of authoritarian massacres throughout history, not the least of which being the ethnic cleansing going on in the world right now.

Holy shit...

Currently in season 3 of Schitt's Creek.

Started watching Project UFO. The background is the rising tension leading to the 1980 polish worker protests. In this situation were are some people tasked with investigating a possible alien encounter. So far it is funny in a weird way.
