Has there ever been such a difference in rating score between versions of the same game? It's like 35-30 points right now, wow!

There are PS5/XBSX specific adjustments like a 60 FPS mode option. Are things like draw distance etc improved as well? |
Nope, it is just that the framerate is uncapped on PS5 and DRS for resolution. PS5 keep itself at the top of the DRS range (so it could possibly be increased) and is mostly solid 60fps all the time. But that is it. They may have made minor tweaks to PS5 and Series, but only by march or so we will see nextgen version.

Maybe on the early days of PS3???
For recent cases the most I can remember are like 3 points, but usually I don't check multiple version scores I just check the one I may buy.

Learnt my lesson with buying CD PRojekt Red games on console, when I initially bought The Witcher 3 on PS4.
I played it for about an hour or so and immediately stopped. Went out and bought a new GPU at the time (GTX 970) and re-bought the game on PC.
The experience on console was so far from the pre-release footage and YouTube playthroughs that I found unacceptable.
Never looked back once I started the PC version. Strangely enough I ended up playing on PC using a PS4 controller as the mouse movements were buggy imo.
I knew that I would most likely need to upgrade again when Cyberpunk is released. I will be playing this game once I upgrade my PC. It really is the only way to play CD Projekt Red games.

They are an odd bunch, best on PC but tuned for console control schemes. I had the same problems with the mouse movements in TW2. Plus the inventory management was made for controllers, very clumsy for mouse + kb.
I played TW3 on PS4 and it looked pretty good bar some bad slow down and rather big streaming issues in the city. Nowhere close to the early reveals but quite pretty in places. I hope the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk turn out well, but it will take some time. If I get a new gaming laptop before then I'll use Cyberpunk as its first 'test', otherwise PS5 version.
This huge disparity in reviews is also caused by forgiving all the issues for the PC version (should be fixed with day 1 patch) vs going full turbo on the console versions. It is very playable on ps5 and Series X, but I guess it's fair not to base the score on running the game in BC mode a generation ahead. Yet that begs the question, why not review the PC game on the minimum and recommended specs.

You're overestimating how many people care about graphics, framerate, and even bugs. Cyberpunk is at 5th place on Xbox One's most played games list right now in spite of the controversy, beating popular multiplayer games like Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Destiny 2, as well as Minecraft and Roblox. Would sales have been affected if they had been honest about their console version issues? Probably, but I'd guess that maybe only 10-20% of the preorder people on console would have cancelled their preorder over it. Most people were just too hyped for this game to care. It's the same reason why Fallout 76 had tons of players on release in spite of the controversy it faced, with a similar outage mob giving it bad user reviews and such, but ranking highly on the Xbox most played games list for weeks after release. People love developers like Bethesda and CD Projekt too much to care. I know I'm enjoying the hell out of Cyberpunk on my Xbox Series X, the bugs I've encountered are minor enough that they aren't affecting my enjoyment. |
Does this includes Xbox One X? If yes then it makes sense as the game seem to be ok to play on One X despite the bugs, which of course will vary from person to person.

The fact that the game is terrible on last gen hardware is overshadowing the fact that the game is full of bugs on current gen systems. I would say that even on Series X it feels like a beta test. The game needed more time in the oven all around.

I see Quarter to Three is still active posting their usual troll scores.

Would love to see more fair reviews that aren't based solely on performance and bugs. Best game I've played all year personally, in spite of the bugs. Currently a 9/10 game from the 20+ hours I've played so far, and I see the potential of a 9.5/10 game after the upcoming year of free DLC, patches, Xbox Series and PS5 optimizations, and the 2 paid expansions. |
Cant see them ever doing a review again. Me personally, i have always been in favour of reviews being updated at major releases or as the game changes but it would be too confusing for people buying the game and would be open to manipulation by the game publishers. For example - lets say the game got worse or was graded lower at a later date.....the publishers would stick with using old review scores in their marketing.
One game which really bugs me with the scores they gave was Driveclub. No way is the finished final game a meteoritic 71/100 but thats the score people will ever see. I thought it was a stunning game and was easily a 85ish. Same goes for No Man's Sky which coincidentally is also a 71/100 but if you look at it now its a much much better game than that.
