Whoops, fallen a little behind. I don't think anyone got 31 so I'll make it easier.

31) A spiritual successor to a game with quite mediocre reviews that completely changes everything but the concept. A prequel came out in 2018 and had excellent reviews, though I found it very slow. Developed in San Diego by a studio whose Scotland branch develops a hugely popular crime series.

30) The campaign sees you travel across Greece, Egypt and Scandinavia chasing a powerful and ambitious cyclops

29) This god game, the third in its series, replaces its predecessors' isometric view with a fully rotating 3D overhead view. The lead developer went on to make another god game, a series of RPGs and then a bunch of conceptual experiments that nobody really liked.

28) This game's narrator, who reads out quotes as you advance scientifically, sadly passed away last year.

27) This sequel to a rebooting of a classic FPS series continues to add further RPG elements.

26) Seeing this game's secret ending requires you to eat a bunch of umbilical cords

#31 Red Dead Redemption

#29 I didn't even knew there were more than one Populous game but your description of the game and Peter Molyneux is very spot on, so Populous: The Beginning apparently.

#26 I have no real idea, but Umbilical Cords make me think this might be The Binding of Isaac

31 and 29 are correct. I miss the god game genre and he was so good at it :(

I couldn't get into The Binding of Isaac at all, but not a bad guess.

29: Populous: The Beginning?

28: Civilization IV?

29 is correct as above.

28 is very close, but Nimoy passed away five years ago.

More hints:

29. a. This first entry in the series is based on a classic piece of literature.
b. There is a character in this game that is over three hundred years old and only ever had one true friend.
c.  "The Water Margin".
d. The original concept of this game was that you would wander the marshes of China and gather together legendary heroes, but before the game was released they added more traditionally fantasy things like elves and dwarves.
e. Only your character can assemble the 108 Stars of Destiny.

Shit, how did I miss this one. This is Suikoden, the first on I take? Ted would be over 300 years old if I remember well.

Yes, Suikoden is correct.

26. a) This game finds a variety of different ways to combine the most popular game in the world with another game created by Sega.
b) Part of the gameplay of this game originally comes from Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

25. This MMO from a well known franchise managed to pass Everquest in total number of subscribers.  Of course, about a year after the game's North American launch World of Warcraft was released and completely dwarfed it in popularity.

#29: Oh, you literally gave away the name of the book in c, which I didn't realize as the german name is more like the outlaws of liang chan. With d I realized you meant that book. So, a lot of games actually are based on that book, but I think most well-known is Suikoden, so I assume it is that.

#26: Puyo Puyo tetris

#25: Guild Wars?

29 is right, but Jpcc86 beat you to it.

26 is correct!

25 is wrong.

Now that I'm back from VGChartz Jail for being an astute observer, some more stuff!

33 - Best Selling SNES game that doesn't feature Mario.

32 - This threequel's title is a cheeky play on words for anal sex.

31 - When Sony opted not to buy the rights to this game, it went multiplatform. It was so successful that Sony asked the company to make a game in this style for the PS4.

30 - Yarrrrrrrrrr....and I guess magical artifacts that nobody cares about.

Just going to take my best guess on all of these.

b) Originally, combat in this game revolved around parties performing skillchains together.  After the success of WoW, this game changed a lot of it's mechanics and skillchains became less important.

24.  In this 80's arcade game you can shoot monsters or drop apples on them.
