Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square Enix reports ¥6.5b loss for HD games, driven by poor performance of Marvel's Avengers

This games wasn't deserving big sales, but still sad that it lost money. I like SE.

Well Square shouldnt do stupid chit. Averagers Spiderman exclusive content and FF7 timed exclusive should be a valid lesson to them. Stop limiting your games and content to customers and they will make more money.

Big yikes on this one. What's happening to my fav devs? Sega, and SE aren't doing too hot right now.

Yeah, I just saw that Sega is expecting big losses for the financial year and is asking up to 600 employees to voluntarily resign to try and cut costs.

Yup, it's just awful. I would make a thread about it but it's just so sad. I hope somebody buys them out. Square Enix will be fine though. Avengers was just a terrible mistake they made and hopefully they'll learn from its missteps and go back to their basics.

This game had so much potential before they went down the GaaS route.

If ever Microsoft was going to make an actual play for success in Japan, now would be the time to do it. A Sega acquisition would be perfect for them, not only giving them Japanese IP's and developers, but Sega also owns several western PC developers whose games could be used to push Gamepass PC.

Agreed. I was thinking the same. Buying SEGA would be mutually beneficial and would really help Xbox as a brand not only in the US but world wide. This wouldn't be a bad move if Sammy is interested in selling Sega off to them. That'd be a crazy get, and the logistics behind such an acquisition I'm sure would be messy since I doubt they'd just buy Sammy flat out.

The loss seems to suggest that Marvel's Avengers had a budget of around $100m USD and only sold 3m copies so far.

So they lost like 63 million USD on this game (so far) ?
Microtransactions will probably overtime (along with more game sales) help reduce that.

This have 0 to do with the two topics your brought, but thank you.

Hopefully Sega leaves all the Atlus people alone (seriously dont touch them!).
Or sell Atlus to Sony :)

Can we do like on the SE thread and blame this on Sega bringing Yakuza first to Xbox and to get their games on GP?
