Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: Xbox Series S and X only next-gen consoles with full RDNA 2 feature set

The thing is we have no clue whatsoever what the efficiency for these two is... do we?

Correct. Hence why we need to wait for a proper analysis before anyone jumps to conclusions.

I wasn’t aware of that but I am not surprised they did this, since it makes sense.

The point I was making still stands though. Both the PS5 and Series X use their CUs to provide hardware accelerated ray tracing.

I mean... I can always play semantics and mention a game from the 6th generation Original Xbox had which used hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing... :P
It's just got dedicated hardware for the task now rather than having it done on general purpose GPU compute cores.

If we wait then there will be no crow to be served or eggs to be scraped off of faces.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

I don't think most people care to be honest about all these terms. Most gamers don't know jargon  and majority won't pay attention. This kind of stuff won't generate sales. How many people who listened to cerny  speak got much out if it? Probably only a few. Most people just want to hear stuff about games or see what the thing looks like.

And yet he spent a sizeable amount of time talking about variable clock rates, SSD, and 3D audio. That was certainly an interesting choice of which "jargons" should be at the forefront.

That's the way cerny is and talks. But when you look at a lot of the comments, most people are like " I don't know what he's talking about but it sounds good, let's see some games".  That presentation was probably for journalists/investors. But he spoke about what most people would care about if anything, the gpu/cpu/ ssd/memory and new audio, since most people will get this, and and it talks about how this changes gaming, directly.   But stuff like dlss/ and mesh shading/api's, aren't exactly necessarily game changing features. He spoke about their geomety engine and custom features, he didn'r elaborate, but these would be tools to aid development and free up resources.

Considering Demon's Souls is the best looking next gen title, the Xbox Series X/S having full RDNA2 won't matter, until the Series X has a title that looks heads and shoulders better than any PS5 titles.

Otherwise, its a minor advantage that doesn't compare to the potential of the SSD/ IO throughput, with near instant load times being the tip of the iceberg.

No.

Demons does actually look better, I saw them both in motion, not screenshots.  Graphically it's more pleasing to look at, so far with it's more variety of design , colour paletter, use of motion blur, lighting , ray tracing.

Cerny’s talk was made for the GDC. It was thus made for developers, not for journalists or investors.

I think you really need to go back and watch them both side by side.

You could have picked a better screen shot for Demon's Souls.

Edit: Seeing both in motion, Demon's Souls looks better, especially if you compare the detail in the background and the lighting.

Seems like a little bit more than “PR stuff, because DirectX” to Digital Foundry.
