Forums - Sony Discussion - TLOU2 is losing steam. Why?

The game did just fine. It's going to have a second wave once the PS5 comes out, and again once the HBO series lands. Same with TLOU remastered.

Well, there is a thread on the front page of Vgchartz with more than 100 replies about TLOU 2. We're clearly still talking about it. So much for losing steam.

It was a failure. Even games like Animal crossing, Fall guys and Among us had a better reception than the hyped game. Cyberpunk may face a similar situation.

How are you defining failure?

Many things bothered me in this game. Here's one of them:

Spoiler!

Tommy ACTIVELY giving away his name and Joel's to Abby. Why!? She's a complete stranger! Neither Tommy nor Joel owe her a damn thing!

Abby owes Tommy and Joel her life actually, and we see how wonderfully she repaid that debt.

And some wonder why Abby isn't too well-liked.

How I’ll enjoy reading your comments/reviews for XBox and Nintendo games based on what you wrote here. :)

You are more than welcome to give me a game and ill give you my honest review on it.

It also seems you disagree with my opinion, I am curious to know what makes you think TLOU2 is that amazing?

The best example i could give you is that TLOU is like SW A New Hope and TLOU2 is like SW The Last Jedi. The Last Jedi has superior effects, sound and presentation while A New Hope lacks a lot of the technologies of today, however i can tell you many fans and movie watchers of Star Wars would much rather watch the first movie over the 2nd last movie because it just has a much better story and direction that makes an amazing difference. This is how i felt when playing both.

With a 93 on metacritic it has a better score than every Xbox one game released. Only 2 switch games have a better metacritic score. It’s the game of the year easily.

Well Sure it was odd, but again they were different people than on the first game. They were set on a city and recruiting, they had saved the girl so he wasn't suspicious of anything strange that needed him being cautious. And about Abby there really isn't much reason to repay in a different way considering that she already had her mind set before hand.

Glad it's not selling as much. I just had to treat my buddy a few beers for sharing his copy to me and finishing the game together. We rarely even talk about this game at all. If we do, it's just to poke fun at some of the dumb things about it.

I'm glad Ghost of Tsushima delivered and actually became a good closure for this generation.

I don't know anyone in real life who really likes or loves TLoU 2, they either outright hate it or think it's just decent/okay/good. This is in stark contrast to TLoU where most people I know really like or love it.

I can see why it's losing steam, Naughty Dog took a creative risk which is respectable, however, a poorly executed vision left many fans feeling alienated and disappointed, overall I'd say they backfired and weakened the franchise.
