Forums - Sony - PS5's First Year Games Lineup Looks Amazing!

We're 5 at my job that preordered the ps5 because of the launch line up ( especially Demon's souls).
Otherwise, we would have waited for a good game to buy the console.

The original post also forgot to add in Playstation Plus Collection that's a really big deal to someone new to the Sony eco-system or if you missed out on any of the titles that got added to the collection.

Playstation plus collection pushed my brother to get the console this year for Horizon and days gone

I have to agree with the majority here. The lineup is not good enough Considering the price hike. For me it actually has to look next gen and not a remake of an old game which we all have played. The only game that is remoteky interesting is ratchet and clank but it doesn't look next gen. I am based in nz and ps5 games like demon souls remake cost 140 bucks. An increase from 90 in previous gen lol. I doubt Gow and horizon will be out next year but I hope I am wrong. When those 2 come out I may Consider getting one. In terms of third party I have it's competitor which has gamepass which i cant say no too 😂

I think it's ok. If they do plan to release horizon next year and god of war it will definitely be better than the PS4's launch window. I seriously doubt they are releasing both God of war and Horizon in the same year. Multiplats I'll be getting on Xbox, and in terms of exclusives, Horizon, Spiderman, God of War, Ratchet which I can wait to play and I'd rather play on PS5 anyway.

Exclusive wise, I'm only interested in Kena (which is timed), Ghostwire Tokyo (which is timed), Returnal, Horizon 2, and God of War 5, and I fully expect either Horizon 2 or God of War 5 to get delayed into 2022, Sony would be insane to release both games in the same year. I will wait on a Slim model in 2023 before I buy PS5 most likely, by then we will hopefully have a few more exclusives that interest me, like some JP exclusives, Spider-Man 2 with Peter Parker, and the rumored new Uncharted by Sony San Diego and San Mateo.

lol, I didn't even know Kena was timed. I can definitely wait to pick that up. Ps5 gonna be a beast once that P6 hits :)

It's defo better than PS3 and PS4,, possibly PS2. That said Spiderman is just a spinoff game, Assassins, CoD and Cyberpunk are last gen games. Ratchet and Horizon are probably the most exciting games, and RE can be promising. It's decent but amazing, not for me. I usually by a PS 2 years down the line once 3rd parties get a handle of the system and first party titles start pouring. I doubt this will change for me

Why?

They released at least two big first party games every year following the PS4 release 2014-2020.

But they already have 4 big first party games scheduled for 2021 currently, Horizon 2, Gran Turismo 7, God of War 5, and Ratchet & Clank. That is total overkill, especially since they have 2 AAA timed hats releasing in 2021 as well, plus several smaller AA and A exclusives. Better to delay God of War and possibly one other to 2022 imo, because they likely have very little from 1st party studios coming in 2022, especially their AAA 1st party studios. Naughty Dog just released TLOU 2, they probably won't release their next game until 2023-2024. Sucker Punch just released Ghost of Tsushima, they probably won't release their next game until 2024. The rumored new Uncharted at Sony San Diego only began development in 2019, with that team expanding slowly, so it might not release until 2023 or 2024. Maybe Bend can get Days Gone 2 out in 2022, but Sony's 2022 line-up would look much better with both Days Gone 2 and God of War 5.

I see no good reason for Sony to have an overkill year in 2021, that would hurt them in mores ways than one; their exclusives would end up competing against one another for sales, and it would hurt their 2022 line-up.

how is it overkill? that's called incentive! And on top of that, the genres and styles are disparate enough that folks who are super into Gran Turismo might not care about God of War, and folks into Horizon might not overlap too much into Ratchet & Clank. I want 3/4 of those games, but still. And, since Horizon and a handful of other PS5 games are also coming out on PS4, it balances the marketplaces reasonably well. Not sure why you think releasing a lot of high quality first party games is a bad thing, especially not as the first year of a console.

Do you have any idea how good of an impression that'll leave on gamers, seeing that many games in the first year alone - the year that typically is the weakest in a console's lifecycle?

This thread is a sobering reminder that you can't please everyone and that some people will complain regardless of what a company puts out.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a cheap add-on to the best-selling superhero game of all time. A lovely little distraction that's probably only gonna be a couple hours long and a nice intro to the new console. It's a rather light appetizer rather than a full-course meal. I'd have preferred a whole new game, but this is fine.

Ratchet & Clank looks to be a return to form on one of the most pure fun action-platformers ever and a great showcase of what the PS5 is capable of.

Demon's Souls is a very good looking remake of one of the underrated gems of Gen 7 and a lovely opportunity for folks like me into the Souls games to return to Boletaria.

Horizon Forbidden West is a much-wanted sequel to a new IP from 2017 and one of the biggest new IPs of the last generation and a phenomenally reviewed game.

God of War is a sequel to the best-selling and most beloved game in the God of War franchise, a weighty action-adventure game with RPG elements akin to Dark souls.

Gran Turismo 7 is the latest in a long line of bestselling and beloved racing games.

Sackboy's Big Adventure is a light and bouncy 3D platformer.

And there's many more exclusives and third party games and timed exclusives as well. Racing games and platformers and story-driven open world games and action RPGs and toony shooters and superhero games. So much pedigree and so much variety I genuinely thought nobody could possibly think that was a bad or mediocre or disappointing first year. These games listed above are all surefire hits, or at least moderate hits as they're all expansions, sequels, remakes, or new takes on old beloved games that have a history of quality. To not like any of them or think any of them are worth investing in confuses me. Tastes and all, I know, but it's not like all the games are one genre or aimed at one target audience or anything. Something in there has to get to you unless you're biased or incredibly picky.

But like I said, can't please everybody. I remember people going on about how terrible the Switch's first year was because Mario Kart was a rerelease and Zelda was also on WiiU and Splatoon was just the same as the first one despite all three of those games selling like gangbusters, got great reviews, and are universally beloved. I genuinely expect the same thing to happen here.

Yea line up looks great.
At people complaining that it might hurt their 2022. I guess you needed something to complain about.
