No collections, ports or remasters; Only new games and remakes

Then Xenoblade is missing

I always get confused with this remake vs remaster thing, so please forgive me on this one

The Last of Us: Part II, would be my game of the decade too, if it wasn't for the first one.

It isn't unusual for your game of the year to also be your game of the decade, when you're in the first year of a decade.

The next decade should start on January 1st, 2021. It is not unusual if I consider 2020 part of the decade that started on January 1st 2011.

The defining game of the Year would be Animal crossing New Horizons and i don't think anyone can argue on that.
For the best, i have not really played a game this year that screams Goty for me. Maybe that will change in the next weeks.

A remake is a game done from the ground based 100% on a previous game with subtle to no differences at all from that old game.

A good example would be in movies:

Remake: Mulan (2019), Aladin (2019) and The Lion King (2019) live actions are remakes of the original animated movies.

Remaster: Putting HD graphics in the original Mulan/Aladin/Lion King animated films.

I guess in that case it wouldn't be, but that's not how decades work anyway.

It is how they work, contrary to popular belief, do the research. It is a Mathematical conundrum. So while I feel that I am right, you might feel differently about it. I am not wrong, and technically neither are you.

There are games that are obviously remade with a totally different code, like Pokemon remakes

The problem is remakes like Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS and Xenoblade Definitive Edition, they are so similar to their originals they can be easily confused with remasters, just with better textures, when both actually were made from different engines

Doom Eternal or Ori Will of the Wisps.

Haven't played either yet, but from looking at gameplay they seem by far the best games to have released this year.

The only games from this year that I've bought (not including remasters) are Paper Mario (haven't played it yet, big backlog), and Animal Crossing (for my wife).

But I can say, from my love of the original and my love of BOTW, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity will be my game of the year no doubt.
If I included remasters, Xenoblade is a masterpiece.

1doesnotsimply

The Last of Us ll hands down for me.

Its the best game I’ve ever played honestly and thats a really tough feat.
