Forums - Gaming - MS CEO Nadella: We Will Consider Buying Even More Game Companies In Future

Sony buying Insomniac =/= MS buying Bethesda.

Sony buying an unknown studio with no good games to it's name =/= MS buying Bethesda.

And in the buisness industry, there isnt a level playing field. If a company wants to compete with a mega corp, so be it, these things can and will happen.

Also buying studios is the exact same thing  as buying studios.  Weather its Insomica or Bethesda, the concept is the same.

Most of MS's 1st party content has slowly gotten worse over the years. Can't wait to see them bring the same mediocrity to Bethesda's games. I fully expect Fallout 76-2.

Not the same. MS release their games across PC on both their own Store and steam etc day and date, they also allow you to play on mobile with xcloud.

Sony locks their games to mostly one platform (With the exception of a bad port of a 3 year old game and one or two small indie games)(Thats the reason why MS,PC, And Nintendo fans cant enjoy something like Spider-man etc).

Nintendo wont allow their games on anything other then their own system (Reason why Sony, MS and PC players etc never got to play Bayo 2 and 3 when it releases without owning a switch)

However i can bet out of all Sony and Nintendo fans at least more then half of them now have a device that can now play xbox exclusives thanks to xcloud..

Full on exclusives are bad one way or another but if giving the option of one of the big 3 buying a company id Sooner MS then Sony or Nintendo any day of the week as im not forced to buy their box to play their games then.

MS, PC, and Nintendo fans can just buy a PS4/5. Nothing is stopping anybody from being a multi-platform gamer.

well, there's 13 video game associated acquisitions there?

Is that better or would you like to come up with some other way to move the goal posts? Need a hand? I've seen plenty of others doing the same. I'm sure they'll happily jump in and grab the other side for you.

Sony buying Insomniac =/= MS buying Bethesda.

Guerrilla games? Insomniac? Naughty Dog? Zipper? Sucker punch? Unknown studios?

Ok mate. Referees can assist in moving goalposts too. Team work makes the dream work.

Holy mother of all cats. There are people who really think that Microsoft buying Bethesda for $7.5 Billion dollars was to get back at Sony and not a continuation of their business plan for the gaming sector?  Christ on a sandwich, I'd forgotten about this kind of stuff.

lol, alright then. We'll see.

You don't wanna play that game, trust me.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Which game? Now I'm confused.

I know you must be salty from this acquisition, but at least be realistic. No way suddenly all these new MS title will be mediocre. If you have payed attention at all with with studios like Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Compulsion games, Playground, Inxile, The Initiative, etc. They've been building up these studios and giving them what they need to be the best they can be. Giving them time to make the best games they can. Don't just take my word for it, all these devs have been saying the same thing. If you don't think MS will do the same thing with these new studios, you are in serious denial. If anything, this will make it so they DON'T need to release games like ESO and Fallout 76 now.

You realize, if MS actually wants Xbox/game pass to really grow, quality titles and diversity are absolutely important to making this happen. Half-assing it won't cut it.

It will be funny if they buy a lot of studios and publisher but still on third place on consoles sales , let see and wait. But already see Microsoft will not able to defeat Sony on console area. They focus is gamepass. They don't care on consoles sales. Trus me they will sell their exclusives games on PS console at regular 70 USD price but making it cheap or free on gamepass. It will be winner for both.

That would be funny, and it wouldn't be the first time, or even the second or third, Microsoft has made a multi-billion dollar purchase that completely blew up in its face.

Welp, I guess this is how they plan to make Game Pass the "Netflix of gaming", I doubt boosting hardware sales is the only reason they are doing this for. I wonder if they'll try to come for some Japanese third parties in the future (that's when their buyouts would start affecting me in a more significant way, since I'm more into japanese games but I'm not into Xbox).

Edit: now that think about it, aren't there laws in Japan that make it hard for foreign companies to buy japanese ones?

Pandora's box has been opened.

Sony must have heard of this impending acquisition for quite some time now, especially with rumors that they were negotiating timed exclusivity for Starfield, and even the rumors that Sony was looking to purchase Bethesda back in January. Hopefully Jim Ryan was serious about not being complacent. Sony has invested billions into other sectors of their business while the Playstation division hasn't seen that kind of investment. And its one of their most, if not the most, profitable division. Sony has $33 Billion cash in hand, obviously its for the whole company, but gaming is looking to be the most lucrative, especially with all the tech giants ready to get into the fray.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that MS is going to make the Bethesda games XB/PC exclusive. It wouldn't make sense from a business perspective to buy a company that gets half of its sales from Playstation, then stop releasing their games on Playstation. It would probably erase more than 50% of the value of the company that they just bought. MS is a giant company, run exclusively "by the numbers". There's no console war BS going on on that board room. It's a bunch of smart business people figuring out how to make more money. And, buying companies and stripping out half of their sales on purpose is not an effective way to do that.

You don’t spend 7.5 billion to keep them multiplat. That would happen for free if MS did nothing. Worst case they are timed, 6 months to a year. Ideally they are exclusive to Xbox and PC and they attract millions of new gamers. Which long term more then make up for any lost PS5 game revenue.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
