Forums - Sales Discussion - What is the cost to manufacture a PS4 these days? And should Sony cut?

Should they have/will they?

Yes and they should have in 2018 6 22.22%

Yes and they should have in 2019 7 25.93%

Yes and they should now 7 25.93%

No they should keep it $299 4 14.81%

They should do a $50 cut 2 7.41%

THEY SHOULD INCREASE PRICE! 1 3.70%

Total:27

They are not making enough PS4 to sell so there's no point of a permanent price drop now. I don't know how much it cost to manufacture a PS4 but it's definitely under $250

My guess would be around $200

Imagine a $200 PS4 and $300 series S next to a $300 Switch. Nintendo needs to cut the price as well.

Why exclude the Switch Lite that's $200? Going into this holiday season Nintendo still has the cheapest system.

Considering the time since last price cut I would guess the cost to make is 150 USD or about it and PS5 about to release PS4 should be cut to less than 199.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I feel like they never planned on dropping to 199 (becasue... inflation), but I think they planned to drop it to 249.. before pandemic hit and suddenly they were short on supply. and they certainly didn't want to ramp UP production this late into the ps4's life cycle.

Doesn`t even compete. X1 have been defacto 199 for quite sometime and that didn`t had any impact on Switch. PS4 also had 199 promotions and Switch sales curve wasn`t noticeably impacted as well.

They had multiple sales at 199, and when PS5 releases and XSS is there as well they won`t be able to sell base PS4 for 249.

$199 with 12 months of PS+ and a promo for 50% off an additional year if then sign up within thirty days of purchase. Then you have people hooked in for two years, which puts them well into the new generation.
