Forums - Sony - Anyone else felt underwhelmed with the FF XVI reveal?

Not wanting to get in to that discussion (re-invention vs changing the entire gameplay).

But from what we saw it seemed very DMC/Souls like anyway. Single character, magic and sword combat. If they made it so you could target enemy limbs or weak spots and that was the way to actually win fights, I could see it being a Vagrant Story successor in FF name. 

Seems fine, in a way we got that with FF7 remake but goofy.

Anyway i'm curious about what this new installment will bring, only downside for me is that i personally do not agree with this kind of exclusitivity.

I liked it a lot, is that a bad thing? I don't know.

I enjoyed the new trailer of Final Fantasy May Cry XVI.

Has the medieval setting with FFXV/FFXIV looks. Definitely want!

Its not what I expected. The combat of FF7 Remake was the culmination of everything Square had failed to achieve since FF12. They finally managed to complete a battle system which works as a real time action game and a turn based RPG at the same time. There is no battle system quite like FF7 Remake, I'm so shocked they looked like they have left that behind to give us a generic hack and slash.

What if this game takes the same hack and slash from ff7 but more elaborated just to fill up the command bar to give us the same thing tacticswise ?

Who knows really if it's a generic hack and slash...

I on the other hand felt that this trailer screamed pure serious business. I definitely hope the game is not like that. 



My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I haven't enjoyed a "new" FF games since 10 so I'm not to surprised this one didn't inspire me. The combat also looked similar to FFXV which I hated the combat in that game.

If the combat is more similar to FF7 remake though it's a day 1 buy for me. FF7 remake is the best game I've played this year by far so I'm at a cross roads. I loved FF7 remake but hated every FF game since X.

I've seen some FF fans be excited about this but that's fair enough.

I'll probably buy this so maybe some of the sales of the die hard fans will be replaced with the sales of FF noobs like me aha

Actual FF fans like me will buy the game regardless. I mean I bought FFXV and I'm confident that the new one will be slightly less garbage.
