This is the first time I've heard of cancel culture or this movie. It's a work of fiction, it's not real, who cares. What I find more disturbing is toddlers and tiaras, that is real... Kinda surreal that American show is fine, yet this movie is an outrage?

I haven't seen the movie so don't know what the problem with it is. Just watched the trailer, no clue why that is over the 'line'. It's just kids imitating the nonsense they see all over social media. Actually I'm impressed at how effective this movie is.

Anyway, not interested, still got enough to watch.

I've seen alot of people saying this on twitter and such, and I'm not sure why. I have yet to see a single person who is criticizing this movie defend Toddlers and Tiaras. Personally I've never watched a single episode of Toddlers and Tiaras and don't intend to, but surely the girls at these child beauty pageants aren't twerking on stage in sexualized outfits? Because that is what the girls in this movie do, among many other sexual things. And the movie might be a work of fiction, but the actors are real girls, and they had to do sexual dancing in sexual outfits in front of adult filming crew and actors for this movie. How is that ok? The movie may be protesting what modern culture does to young girls like the director claims, but in so doing it feeds the very problem she purports to fighting against.

Uhm yeah. just Google the show with twerk appended. That is ok....
Perhaps the director should have just made a documentary about that show!

I'm not sure how it is feeding the problem by exposing the problem. It seems like one big over reaction because people got uncomfortable watching it, very effective. I wonder what Americans think of Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo.

Ah there's actually an Amazon series in the make, the cast looks a lot older.... Not 13 like in the original. Wow, they're making a lot of changes. Now that's disgusting and disrespectful.

Maybe the FBI should investigate Netflix.

If Cutties were animation, CGI or anything similar I would have no issue, since yes fictional world, no real underage person damaged or exposed, etc. But since it had real child doing obscene stuff and being tapped it can`t be defended for being work of art.

Similar to a game or movie with violence or killing is totally fine since no real person or animal was harmed but if you decided to hit people on the street and tape it, wouldn`t be considered ok and art even if you done it with intention to talk against violence (by commiting it).

City of God is one of my top 10 movies, very well critiqued and has children acting out very violent things.

But the violence is not real. As you said acting out. There is actual erotic dancing here. There is zooming and focusing so much on actual minors privates.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

They are acting out erotic dancing...

There is a distinction. You say it's actual erotic dancing, I don't see it. Nor do I see that kid actually killing someone. Maybe it's a compliment to the actors, it looks too real.

Netflix didn't make this movie...it's simply a movie available on their platform. It's like going to the supermarket and getting pissed at the store for having dildos available.

I wouldn't put dildos in my grocery store but some people like dildos.

What a strange analogy. I doubt there is a single grocery store on  the planet that sells dildos, and if there was one, there would definitely be alot of people who shop with their kids complaining to the manager.

What about a dildo store that stocks groceries?

In the US they sell guns at Walmart...

But yeah being pissed at Netflix. TV and radio stations always have disclaimers at the start of programs and movies. Though, they also have complaint committees and ratings of course. Glad to get uncensored stuff on Netflix, booooh uncensored stuff on Netflix! Make up your mind people.

this really could not happen at a better time. The new season of south park starts sometime this month. This has to be their opening.

Honestly most of this backlash was based of a poster, little to do with contents of the film. For that reason I blame netflix and their US marketing arm. Very unfortunate for the film maker
