I'm not saying this kind of movie shouldn't be made.

I'm saying they could've done it in a different way.

This isn't necessary

Again I haven't seen the movie but since someone here claimed that there isn't even any nudity in the movie, I did some research and according to Forbes, the breast in that internet video does not belong to a minor.

The rest seems to be exactly what the director was aiming for.

Here's an interview with the producer:

What was the inspiration for this project?
It came from Maïmouna’s personal experience. She grew up in a large family living in one room in the 19th district of Paris, in a social housing project. She regularly goes back to the neighborhood to see her family and in one of the local festivities she saw a group of young 11-year-old girls dancing very provocatively to an audience with many mothers wearing traditional head scarves. She found it fascinating and disturbing and it raised the question of what role models young women can follow. It’s a very visceral movie. It really got under her skin and we feel it.

So basically she wanted to film what she has seen in real life. Wouldn't work nearly as well if she casted 16-year-olds and pretended they were 14 in the movie.

Also seriously? 11-year-olds watching porn on smartphones? You have to be pretty naive to assume that this is uncommon.

No one is saying these things don't happen.

As I said, there's a clear difference between murder in movies and real life snuff films. This is a production where they're using real children. It would be different if it was an older actress that looked young and played a younger character.

to which I already replied that 3 out of 4 girls were 13-ish during the time they filmed it.

And I also mentioned that you probably won't find a 16-year-old, hell definitely not an 18-year-old, that looks like she would be anywhere near 11.

3 of the girls being 13 doesn't make it better lol

I know some 20 year olds that look ridiculously young. And when I was 16 there were girls in my year in school that looked much younger than that.

I don't mind it at all if the children aren't hurt by it. So unless they were forced or coerced to do the movie I'm fine with it. That's also what separates a horror movie from real snuff. It's also what separates pedophilia from actual crimes. As long as the children are fine everything is fine.

I would like to think of this movie like one of those athletics competitions with really young children. Dancing and spreading in skin tight outfits in front of cameras. Whatever makes them happy.

Are you going to tell me with a straight face you don't see the difference between this and the way girls olympics/gymnastics is shot and covered?

Depends on how you want to measure it. A pedophile will get off to both.

I absolutely have no issue with children behaving sexually suggestive. It's what children do, they ape adults. The actresses probably had a lot of fun doing this without thinking anything bad about it. Probably because it's nothing bad. It's just people dancing.

Not quite the best metric in determining this difference.

If it's not about pedophiles what is it about?

I wonder if this scene from Little Miss Sunshine got similar push back or would in this day and age:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtVmfXnJM80

Main difference that I can think of is that the kid was younger in that movie and so was doing this without understanding its context. Seems like this Cuties movie the kids are older and so they do understand the context of their dancing. I assume the idea is to try and explore how girls of that age understand their femininity and how it fits within society. In the scene from Little Miss Sunshine I don't think anyone assumed that the people making the movie were doing so to get their rocks off, but to satirize the often perverse nature of beauty pageants. I'm ok with giving the makers of Cuties the same benefit of the doubt.

Never said they're not in consideration of this dilemma, only that "what a pedo gets off to" is such a bullshit metric that I'm surprised it was even suggested.

Why not? They would be considered teens after all and dealing with sexuality is probably the most teenie-thing there is.
