"A few old games"? Did you even look at the game list... I mean I agree that "just about every game" is super off, but your statement is pretty inaccurate too :)

Yes... I have, and while I am exaggerating, the point I am making is that its far from "just about every new game".

Question is does MS really care about the power crown or is that just to keep a portion of their user base happy? If they are losing less money on XBSS, and can sell a boat load of them anyway, then why not? As for the XBSX power narrative up until now, odds are MS probably felt that if they started out with XBSS, they would lose a bunch of the hardcore hardware fans to PS5 once it revealed. Showing up after with XBSX might seem like an afterthought or MS scrambling and damage controlling, which really wouldn't look good. I think they played it safe, though it still is a mess.

I think the real MS messaging here is actually gamepass. Even MS has said as much themselves. They aren't trying to sell consoles, they are trying to sell their service. That's why it seems like they are adopting an everything and the kitchen sink approach.

Yes, the Xbox One. No point in buying an XB1 when you've got a Playstation 4. This though? Is a new console. Giving people a huge backlog and value at $9.99? Again, Xbox could prove us all wrong.

You don't see the contradiction what you are saying?

Anyways, ok... we will see whathapensI guess.

Sure, but to play Game Pass, you need a device. The more devices MS can offer, the better the chance someone will purchase a device, leading them to sub to Game Pass. For now anyway.

Even if MS didn't care that much about the hardcore spec gamers, they need them to help their ecosystem grow early on. Once the service grows large enough, they can forget about the highest most expensive performance products if they want to. Perhaps even all of them. Whether they will or not, we'll see. Though having a device or two of your own isn't exactly the worst idea because you can't always rely entirely on other companies products.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

Unless Sony pulls a Samsung and recalls the PS5 after reports of them exploding surface there's 0 chance that happens since even with Sony heavily screwing up with the PS3 they still outsold the 360 a bit in the end and since Sony has been doing well with the PS5 so far it would take a sudden screw up of that magnitude for the Series X/S to sell better worldwide. It should still regain some market share though and end up at about 60-70 million.

Exactly, thats why MS is making something for everyone. If power is what you want, they have a box for you. If you are budget-minded, they have a box for you. If you don't want a console period, they are also on the PC. And e reason their marketing seems to be all over the place is cause as you said they are trying to make every platform or rather, every form factor they are in appear as if it were the best thing ever.

And the reason for that is that t would just b to risky for them to come out and just say, "hey, forget ou consoles just pay for our service."

They are setting themselves to end with a jack of all trades master of one conundrum. Unless you see it for what it really is and the only thing they really care about is gamepass. The consoles are just gateway drugs in this case.

Sure it can. All three console companies have shown the last couple generations that anything is possible.

Probably not, but I don't think that's Microsoft's goal. Their goal is to get as many people on Gamepass as possible. If they managed to outsell PS5 in the process, that'd just be a bonus.

If only $100 cheaper, no way the Xbox S can compete with the PS5 D. The difference in specs is just too great.

I think when it comes time to show off games running on the S vs PS5, will make the S seem like its a half of a gen behind.
Not sure what MS is going for with a gimped console. Not to mention 1st party line up is super weak on next gen Xbox currently.

It has a chance to get more market share in US and UK. I think sony best strategy to combat series S will be to price ps5 digital at 349 and ps5 physical edition at 449. If sony do that, it will be enough to beat MS in the US and UK.

Not sure if it can outsell PS5...but what I know is I will most likely get S for kids - with option to play games with Gamepass both on Xbox and PC, it's quite a nice package.
