I think a lot of this is pointless... Microsoft spacing all this out makes little sense to me. I completely understand the hardware and pricing is wait and see, but they should be doing weekly releases. That Halo demo should have been shown off in May to give everyone a teaser then you have longer weekly shows throughout the summer months focusing on one or two games and let developers stretch their legs. Let leads give more info... is that demo they are showing a build from 5 months ago and they just don't have the ability to make a new one with the current pandemic going on? If you inform people about these things DURING the show you have a lot less blowback. Imagine if they had said that the Halo demo was from a "stable" build from February? We'd still see the trolls, but fans and critics would have given them less crap.

Companies often avoid being clear if not needed.

Well most of the complaints stem from lighting and enemy character textures. Also grass/foliage.

There will be a ray tracing patch, that unfortunately won’t make it till after launch. I’m not expecting a night and day graphical changes but at least enemy textures and grass isn’t an impossible task to at least touch up.

And massive pop-in everywhere, front and back.

Simplified, pop-in is a sure sign you are too late in whatever you want to achieve within a frame. If you think that ray tracing (something that will take away small to massive compute power depending on what you want to do) will help (it can't), you are in for a rude awakening.

I watched the whole presentation with increasing befuddlement. It is apparent that there is some cognitive dissonance within MS, and between the pr people hyping the X1X and the people actually making the games. I'm absolutely convinced that the latter group warned the former group to hold back on presenting Halo as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The people "who know better" didn't listen and even made Halo the opening sequence. I have not seen a single comment from an engineer involved in game programming that understood this horrible decision.

Let's face it, for the "Most powerful console in the world", starting your show with somewthing that barely, and that is what it was, barely exceeding X360 level graphics was, let's say it nicely, interesting.

Equally telling was the immediate reaction to critique of the hype crowd: "It was Corona", "It was an early build", "The dog chew on the Blu-ray disk", etc. etc. If that doesn't scream cognitive dissonance, or point blank, incompetence, I don't know. It is almost like watching an Orangehead press briefing.

I hope there is more of the same coming. It makes for good watching entertainment.

Cognitive dissonance, from people who spend years making the hardware and the games and the people who oversee them? Nah. Maybe if Halo was the only game they were making and was as good as XSX graphics would get but we’ve already seen better. Incompetence maybe but even then, we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors and in Zoom meetings.

dont make me bring up the killzone trailer

And? Do you actually think I am going to defend that?

Not to mention, it’s irrelevant. If anything, it proves my point further; reveal trailers and demos tend to be a lot more polished than the actual final product. Keeping that in mind, how does bringing Killzone up help? Unless you expect Halo to look worse than what we’ve seen (which is a possibility), then yeah, I can see why you want to bring it up.

You can not be that naive, it's embarrassing how you're willing to bend over for MS. Are you a new gamer or something? Has Xbox-exclusive output been so dry that you forgot how games should look like when they're revealed?

Always nice to see implied posts that I like being sexually assaulted, or I am a lesser gamer because I like a different platform, and generally being smug/condescending when I tried to be respectful. (Chefs kiss) Always enjoy talking to PS fans.

For the record I too was critical of the graphics but personally I’m just glad they nailed the art style, music and gameplay. Hoping they can do what they can with the lighting and textures but at least it won’t be a downgrade situation like other games in the past.

PS fans?

You quoted me with a non-sense reply that shows your blind faith in MS, I got moderated for my choice of words, but the truth is, if this was SONY justifying a botched reveal, you wouldn't have bought "but it's an earlier build!!!1!!!", and you would be doing the right thing.

And I don't understand the satisfaction with Halo's "nailed art-style". If it doesn't make the game less of an eye sore, then 343 definitely didn't nail shit. Breath of The Wild, on the other hand, just blows me away each time I pick it up. Now that's a game with an art-style that actually makes you forget that this is a Wii U game.

If Rare doesn't even know what the gameplay of Everwild is going to be yet then WTF was the point of showing it? For art style? Big whoop. If there is no gameplay then I don't care as a person watching and potential customer. Gameplay trailers only. Man what a concept. Showing gameplay for a video game. You can show all the CGI or art concept videos all you want but if no gameplay then what is the point?

Does Rare really not know what the gameplay will be like? I had no idea! Everwild was of the few memorable moments during the show, if true, MS failed miserably.... and everyone thought it would be easy for them to "one up" Sony...

Okay, So let me see if I understand how this works, people here able to bring up Sony games when they put Sony in a good light, but when they do the opposite then it is "hey, guys let's just keep this about Microsoft, okay?" Is that how this work over here?

Why is it wrong to bring up the Killer instinct trailer? I see people here all the time saying that they don't trust Microsoft because of Scalebound, Ryse, Crackdown, etc.

So why are we not able to say that we do not trust Sony because they straight up lied with the Killzone trailer? or with the Ghost of Tsushima gameplay downgrade?

Oh and btw, ONE Sony executive saying something means Sony said it, the same way ONE Microsoft executive saying something means MS said it.

I am not a Sony fan, the reason I listed Sony games is because they’re a direct competitor (duh) and they’ve been consistent and transparent this entire generation when it comes to graphics what is in-game graphics and what isn't, what is exclusive and what isn’t, Phil & Aaron, on the other hand, have been spinning and flip flopping for years (SF5 vs Tomb raider comes to mind), it just doesn’t bode well for Halo.

Not happy with my list of games? Fine, here is the unarguable truth: no first or third party flagship reveal was botched the way Halo infinite was, and even the exceptions you all are trying to bring up, they were all "downgrades", rarely games manage to look better than what they were like when initially shown. Which raises the question; why are you bringing up examples of games that you believe were downgraded? Unless you're expecting Halo to receive a downgrade, it doesn't make sense to bring KZ up.

The only other plausible explanation for doing so is that you are illogically deflecting by digging up dirt on a competitor, regardless of the how relevant the dirt is. Reminds of era when the only response to the PS3 lack of exclusives was "bUt RRoD!11!!", puh lease, you can all do better.

It seems safe to note that the general opinion is that Sony had a better conferences. let's see how the next "round" will be, possibly in August.

Here's hoping Microsoft shows something worthwhile, because so far we only have a couple 'okay' games or games with some potential but not enough info.

We don't really need to wait for the showcases to know the results. I can tell you the results right now: More people here will give a better score to Sony's presentation.

Errr

1st) I just used your list as an example to make a point. I wasn't trying to debate whatever you guys were talking about (which is why I did not answer to you directly).

2nd) Did I find Halo's graphics disappointing? Yes. But at least MS had the decency to show exactly what they are selling so people can know exactly what they're going to get if they decide to buy, and didn't go out their way to create a shiny gameplay just to release the game downgraded later on. I respect that.
