Forums - PC Discussion - Will 'Console Killer' PC's be dead for next gen?

(Random thought) Considering this thread, which Console do you think will be cheaper?

Playstation 5 16 32.65%

Xbox Series X 10 20.41%

Same Launch Price 23 46.94%

Total:49

Until now, Nintendo couldn't crush Sony in the console battle without losing the overall gaming war (portable gaming).

Now that they have a near impenetrable defense against smartphones, the rest of the war will be easy.

This is the 'console killing' PC that Sony/MS should be worried about.

Nintendo has been fighting this battle for generations and has now successfully defended and rebounded against the new challenger while Sony's first line of defence has already fallen and MS's attempts to defend were cut through like butter. They left MS so dizzy they're still trying to find their feet.

As the new kid gets stronger, Nintendo mustn't lose focus and MS/Sony have to prepare for a fight where they've lost every battle so far.

Are you suggesting that phones will kill consoles in the future?

Are we going to pretend that the common consensus among the gaming community for the past 10-15 years hasn't been 'smartphones killed handhelds'?

Switch is proving that the gap between hh and home isn't as big as we've been led to believe.

Yeah PC gaming isn't going anywhere. It's a nessessay device. If you look at the current state of consoles they are are converging into PC's. Some might argue that we are moving to GaaS cloud based streaming services. Negating the need for such devices.

No way smartphone phone games are going to kill PC gaming. That's not ever going to happen.

But smartphones did kill Sony handhelds with a little help from Nintendo.

Smartphones are arguably already ahead of Switch yet Switch hasn't fallen like Sony's hh did and Switch outsold PS4Pro and XB Super or whatever it was called while also outselling XB1 overall and outpacing the PS4.

The market is sending it's signals. Whether you ignore them or not is up to you.

All I'll say is I'd rather be a content king like Nintendo than be a gateway to CoD, Fortnite, Minecraft, FIFA and GTA like every other smart device is or will be.

Personally I have argued differently but yea, you are correct. But that doesn't mean phones will kill consoles...

Totally different experiences. The mass market isn't going to buy a smartphone to play mainstream games like COD, FIFA, Fortnite, Mario etc.

Nintendo have tried dabbling into making games for smartphones and it didn't quite work out for them.

Cloud gaming and GaaS will most likely future for consoles. Even Nintendo is looking into it. Until then there's still a lot of demand for consoles. PS4 sold over 100M Xbox 50M Switch 50M

Who killed Sony's (hh) console and was widely believed to be responsible for Nintendo's hh decline?

So yeah, I'm afraid smartphones have already proven they can (help) kill consoles.

Maybe they are responsible for 3DS's lacklustre sales, it doesn't matter because Switch has reversed any inroads by smartphones and is going to be back at DS levels with even bigger profit margins.

ie Nintendo has successfully defended

Switch is outpacing the headline console of the past 5 years so it's clear Nintendo can beat/defend against smartphones, crush rival HHs (Switch Lite) and outsell both the powerful and standard dedicated home console SKUs combined.

Do MS and Sony with all their billions have anything portable these days?

If the Switch hybrid can outsell both dedicated HH and dedicated Home consoles, is that good or bad news for XB/PS in regards to smartphone getting stronger and able to connect to blutooth controllers/TV?

Portable and home are totally different experiences until you put your phone in the dock and connect a BT controller.

Nintendo knows how to make the difference more than just a big or small screen. Motion control, local multiplayer, splitscreen, whatever tf Labo is etc

And how many people are willing to do that? Maybe 0.000000001% of users. I can't see kids/young adults buying $500 smartphones+dock and controller to play the latest games. They'll just buy a console and plug it into a TV or play on a cheap laptop. Likewise the average consumer who want to play full fledged video games won't even think to play on smartphones. Activition made 1 billion US on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare last year. The market for games on consoles is growing.

So yeah the big three players have their own business plan

Microsoft have made their strategy with Game Pass and its working for them. Offering a tonne of content for a small fee and and they will release Xbox Series X/S/2 so long as people sub it makes them money.

Sony makes a lot of money of PS Plus, consoles sales and software and its working for them.

Nintendo makes a mega tonne off software and hardware too. They have their own niche and I can't see them going away even in 100 years time.

Smartphones aren't replacing anything. No not even PC's, people need those for you know for work.

Anyway not sure where this is going.. this have nothing to do with console killing PC's xD
