Forums - Politics Discussion - Is it true that Americans are to this day afraid of socialism?

I read on internet than many people the USA are adamantly against full government funded health system like they have in Europe because they associate it with socialism and if they accept that soon other socialist things will star to happen.

I know this is a very stereotypical view, mostly from USA media that for a long time used soviétics as villains.

They're not afraid of socialism. Most people actually want more of it.

There is a certain vocal minority in the states that has been fed with nothing but false ideas of freedom and communism that they get triggered by keywords without having to actually think or educate themselves.

The sad part is that the majority of people who have been weaponized against socialism are sufferung from the lack of it but they have been so brainwashed that they don't even realize it. This indoctrination starts at a very young age so you cannot even really blame them.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Everybody should be afraid of socialism, it has a tendency to turn nations into tyrannical dystopias if taken to its fullest expression.
Government funded health systems in themselves are a good thing for the people, as long as the overarching economy remains capitalistic. This kind of system is very costly, however, and it cannot be sustained without heavy taxation.

Theres degree's of capitalism, and Socialism.

Like in denmark, we have "social-democracy", and we have a "safety net" to help people that lose their jobs (so they dont go homeless, starve), and we have free education & healthcare. I wouldn't call us Socialist, we're still a captalistic society.

It guess you could aruge the "degree" of captalism we have is slightly lighter, than the american one.
You guys "fix" every issue by believeing in corporations, will always have the best intrests at heart, because competition will force them to be efficent.
Sadly that isnt always true, case in point, the education and healthcare in the USA is alot more expensive than most other places in the world, while often not even being better for it. Profit driven corporations, tend to line the pockets more than goverment run ones, which results in a higher cost in the end for society.

So some nations, believe certain tasks should be handled by the goverment.
And healthcare and education are amoung those tasks.

So can captalism.

Look at Trump, he doesnt fear the law in the US anymore, he thinks himself above the law,
and basically proves it by being able to break it and get away with it.

Trump is useing populism & nationalism, and racism, to win elections.
He keeps a book on hilters speeches by his bedside (said his ex-wife).
He mirrors alot of slogan and talking points Hilter did.... and he won the presidency.

Hes managed to replace alot of the people, who are in place, as safety guards to put a check on a presidents powers.
With alot of "yes people" that'll just nod at everything he does.

Is the US about to become a facist dictatorship?
I dont think so, yet.... however its strikeing the parrallels to hilter, and the america people, much like the germans at the time, dont see the danger.

The USA spends more on health, than nations that do have "goverment funded health systems".
You guys already use enough money on healthcare, you could give everyone in the US such and save money doing so.
Are you guys currently under "heavy taxation" ?  You just have a very ineffecient and expensive health care system.

The question remains then? why is it so expensive and ineffecient in the US?
Maybe theres a better solution? that say... other nations used that works better?

Hahahaha I can't help but laugh at the propagandized way you describe Socialism. Also you are already paying corporate taxes and more of it for a system that doesn't work and is connected to your employment for some reason. Government funded universal healthcare is cheaper and much much better as shown by all sorts of research and real world examples of other countries.

I would say social democracy is Capitalism with elements of socialism while democratic socialism is socialism with elements of Capitalism. But all of these are bookish terms because who cares whether it;s Capitalism, socialism or communism or any other ism. As long as it is to the benefit of humanity, every policy that works should be adopted and every one that doesn't should be discarded. You can call the hybrid "Satan incarnate" and it shouldn't matter because it is serving the people well. As long as the world is such that every human being lives in dignity and can afford to live and provide for their family while working only one job, I don't give two hoots about the system's name that did it.

That's the problem with Americans. They have restricted themselves to some really good ideas by demonizing political terminology

You might choose a better name for whatever system you wanted, instead of "satan incarnate".
Imagine a neoliberal evangelical, voteing for a system called such? I have a hard time seeing it.

What the heck does any of that have to do with capitalism?

And, no, Trump is not going to become a fascist dictator.  If he were trying, he's gone about it in a strange way considering he's probably the first president since Ford to significantly reduce the power of the office.

He was scarmongering about socialism.
Im just saying capitalism isnt immune to dictators either.

"he's probably the first president since Ford to significantly reduce the power of the office."

Huh?

Have you seen the Picture of Ivanka + Trump marketing Goya Beans ?
Thats actually against the law for them to do.  However give Trump a bag of money, and he ll market your bean can for you.

Hes reduced the power of the office?
Then howcome anyone thats critical of him, gets replaced?
Any investigation into him is stopped? Hes supoena'd for tax returns (law says hand them over) for a investigation and he doesnt?
Look how many people broke the law for him, and he just pardons them afterwards?
He replaced people that are there to put a check on presidential power..... because hes the first one to reduce the power of office? nah... thats a lie.

Also Nepotisme;

It makes corruption way to easy to get away with. If your only surrounded by family members, or people with ties to your family, who are fine with your corruption because it en-riches your family, it makes chances of such happending much higher.  This is why there is a anti-nepotism statute, to prevent that from happending.

Guess who has like 30+ members of family or people with ties to his family in the white house?

These are not the actions of "first president since Ford to significantly reduce the power of the office." ,
but a power hungry one, that thinks himself a King/dictator.

A social democracy is not socialism, most countries in Europe have a social democracy.
