Forums - Sony - PS5 could see even more 3rd party exclusives than PS4

The thing about it that makes little sense to me is that they largely seem to focus on moneyhatting JP exclusives. Xbox Series is already at a huge disadvantage against PS5 when it comes to Japanese gamers, as well as western fans of JP games. Sony can easily be the market leader in Japanese games without exclusivity on those games, they will sell more on PS5 than on XSX as multiplat games. If Sony wants to steal Xbox marketshare they need big western exclusives, but they don't moneyhat those. Almost every moneyhat rumor I've read for tomorrow's show is a JP game; FF16, Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 8, Silent Hill, etc. I'm sure those are cheaper to moneyhat than western games would be, since the publishers aren't losing out on too many sales by not having them on Xbox and/or PC at release, but for the price of moneyhatting all of those combined they could afford to moneyhat a bigger western game and actually steal some Xbox marketshare. It's a strange strategy, if you're going to moneyhat at least make it count.

PlayStation's roots are very Japanese, after all the parent company of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is the Japanese Sony Corporation. Even SIE began as the Tokyo-based Sony Computer Entertainment. Sony has spent years fostering strong relationships with companies like Capcom, Square Enix, Namco, etc. So it makes sense they'd prioritize them for exclusive deals first.

Don't get your hopes up IMO. Sony will be getting aggressive going into next gen, and will probably do whatever they can to maintain its dominance of the home console market, which means shelling out for timed or console exclusivity of big titles, even more so next gen I think, since they don't have an incompetent Microsoft making it easy for them.

That is because you are counting all timed or full exclusive as moneyhats when in fact very few games got moneyhatted. They were exclusive by default to the point we had several games that in Japan were exclusive because there were 0 reason to make a japanese translation for the game.

Possible moneyhats are FFVIIR (possibly an agreement after FFXIII gone to Xbox and the promissed Versus turned to XV as well), SFV was Sony paying for development, and couple other games (like Detroit), there rest were just companies deciding it wasn't worth putting their game on Xbox like Yakuza serie that took full gen and MS going to japan (and probably paying for the port) to beg.

But I would like a list with evidence of all these moneyhatted exclusives.

The argument exclusives are not profitable is invalid, FF7 R is a huge success as an exclusive. There is no such thing as moneyhatting, developers decide exclusives on market potential consoles. PS userbase is a Security for all third party developers, as the most successful series of home consoles, with a steady 85m+ userbase every gen.

noone has said that, its just more profitable if they add an userbase of another 45 million...
and moneyhatting does exist even if you claim it doesnt

An exclusive is more promoted by the console and the third party developer understands how this work. A game plastered by Sony as a ps exclusive with all the spotlight is like free massive promo for that third party developer. Since they know how this works choosing exclusivity is clearly a business-driven choice. Higher profit for the 3rd party developer. More value for the console. A win win situation.

It's funny how some people on this site get defensive about Sony getting a timed exclusive like FF7R etc when only just days ago a lot of MS fans were hoping and praying that MS buy out Sega and make Yakuza and Persona and all their ips exclusive to them. Any studio pops up in conversation and the first thing out of their mouths is I hope MS buys them up. I hope MS buys out this "3rd party" Japan studio etc. etc.

I realize that everybody roots for their favorite brand but don't act all innocent. Each brand does it all the time, people are just scared thinking Sony is going to take away this genre or that genre away from them tomorrow. Hell, even this site's own writer said today he wanted Microsoft to pay Take Two 250 million dollars to make GTA 6 an timed exclusive to Xbox.

Sony might not even moneyhat anything tomorrow or maybe they do and help funding certain projects like MS did with Titanfall!
Point is, if you're crying foul over the potential over a moneyhat while secretly wishing your company does it too then you're nothing more than a hypricrite. Move on and enjoy the upcoming gen.

Street Fighter V - Not exclusive
No Man's Sky - Not exclusive
Neir Automata - Not exclusive
Crash N' Sane Trillogy - Not exclusive
Final Fantasy VII Remake, - Not exclusive
Dragon Quest XI - Not exclusive

Every console manufacturer has been getting less and less 3rd party exclusives every generation. 3rd party companies now see they will make much more money making games multiplat. The PS5 will have even less exclusives than the PS4. There is no reason for 3rd parties to limit their fan bases anymore.

Street Fighter V -  console exclusive
Final Fantasy VII Remake, - console exclusive

I believe the op emphasising console exclusivity and not including PC, but i could be wrong, there are quite a few, persona 5 royal, Guilty Gear Strive, fist of the north star; lost paradise, Noih 2, spiderman (released in 2018, still independent, 2019 brought out by sony), sukura wars  yakuza 6, matterfall, nex fall, alienation, resogun.

Even better is when a rumor about Sony buying a single studio than MS fans say that will make MS react and buy 10 (all the while ignoring they bought a lot of studios, while also giving justifications why MS buying is good and Sony buying is bad).
