Around the Network

Seems like Neil Druckmann who is the vice president of Naughty Dog, has been working with Anita Sarkeesian for some time.

Nobody is debating the critical success. And we all know it will sell millions.

But will it sell as much as the first? More? Unlikely. Spoilers and word of mouth is going to have some effect on the games legs. Social media will be a divisive political spectrum shitstorm.

This is a game made for western audiences (NA/Europe). At least half of which identify as conservative. Who happen to be majority white and Christian. Not just European descent, the 70 million+ Hispanics in USA are also devout Christians. Then all of Mexico which is a growing gaming market. The growing population Muslim’s in Europe have similar views on the controversial aspects. Any of these dominant groups that own a PlayStation will be in some fashion pissed off.

Then you have good ol neutral gamers who will simply be pissed at key characters dying.
Point: Know your demographic. ND put their own agenda above the very people they are trying to sell to.

The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are among the most popular TV shows of all time.

Seems like the multiplayer portion is also getting leaks around the net. Boy, nothing can go right for ND right now ...

Do people even care about multiplayer anyway in a game like The Last of Us?

And? GoT was popular, but hardly went on a high note. They appeal to the demographics so what do you mean?

You mean key characters dying and yet those shows still were popular? Key difference is that they are shows that had dozens of episodes. Plenty time to introduce new characters and flesh out older ones. LOU2 came out 7 years after the first. The pacing of each is key to understand the difference of examples.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

June 19th cannot come soon enough ! It will sell like crazy, like hot cakes. I loved TLOU, this is my most wanted Game in 2020, together with Halo Infinite.

Why does TLoU/Naughty Dog always bring the very worst in political VGC users?

Because if the leaks are to believed, then we are looking at a clear case of Naughty Dog pouring oil into the fire. They want to shock, they want to provoke, they want to have political messaging in their game. Plus there are interviews out there that ND's staff knows what they are getting into, asking people to be open-minded, expecting their design choices to be divisive.

I think there are interesting discussions to be had with these leaks - regarding morality, consequences for past actions, the line between good and evil, and so on.

But I think if you want to read those discussions, you won't find them here. Rather, you'd find anger and speculation about a character's gender, which isn't the sort of debate ND probably envisioned.

Game of Thrones absolutely did go out on a high note, despite what the internet would lead you to believe. The final two episodes were the most watched in the series despite how divisive the final seasons were.

I'm picking at the middle part of your post. The "this is a game made for Western audiences" stuff, implying that Western audiences don't drink up media full of violence, deaths of beloved characters and additions of modern progressive themes. The most popular media franchises on the planet (Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, MCU, Star Wars and Grand Theft Auto to name a few) are fully sprinkled with violence, beloved character deaths and/or modern progressive themes. The first TLoU game was full of these themes too. Ellie's relationship with Riley is key to her entire character, Joel straight up tortures and executes people.

I get your stance but end of day I didn’t consider LOU to be woke or divisive. This is. We can both explain our positions but that’s the basic reality.
