Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch now at half of PS4 lifetime sales

54.4 million Switches to 108.8 million PS4s.

Will the Switch eventually close the gap and pass PS4? How long until Switch doubles to 108.8?

It took 3 years and 1 month for Switch to hit half the sales that PS4 has after 6 years and 5 months. Can it double from here in less than 6 years and 5 months from launch?

PS4 had a crazy last 3 years with software. If Nintendo can keep up with the 1st party support for the next 3 years it should blow right past PS4. But then again PS4 will cap out at 120 million.

How about launch alligned?

Pocky Lover Boy!

PS4 VS Switch is such an epic competition, both will sell an insane amount, at this point i'm not sure who will win this battle.

That might be short selling it just a bit. With healthy sales last month Sony more than likely met or exceeded the fiscal year shipments so they should be around 110.5M as of March 31st. This quarter is already off with a bang with FF7 raising PS4 a lot in the last 2 weeks according to Benji on Twitter. If GoT and Last of Us 2 hit before PS5 with a possible price drop it will definitely blow past 120M in the end. Europe sales are still healthy and if PS5 does have shortages, PS4 will still sell well into the next year.

We have PS4 total sales at 48.9 million through March 2020. So the Switch leads by around 5.5 million.

wouldn't the equivalent be dez 2016 for PS4? (37 months after launch) after which it was at 53.5m according to VGC, so Switch leads by ~1m

No the equivalent is November vs March, the PS4 launched in November and Switch in March. Thing is, PS4 will get a big boost with December but on the article comparing the 2 somebody pointed out the amount sold in December isn't enough to reach Switch's current number. So maybe PS4 will edge it out after January (if May ends up being weak but seems like it will not).

37 months for PS4 is November, not December. You forgot to include launch month as month 1. Ie October 2014 is month 12.

my bad, I had the PS4 EU launch in mind, which was at the very end of nov, while Switch launched at the very start of march

No chance.

PS4 will cap at 120-130 million

Its still up in the air if SW will hit 100 million.

I think PS4 will easily sell more still because Sony consoles still tend to sell quite a bit even when their successors are on the market while Nintendo console sales drop faster than an obese American falling down a cliff. It's just a testament to how well Sony supports their consoles (excluding Vita).

Regardless amazing achievement for both consoles.
