Not just "older" current gen games. It's getting Outer Worlds and Doom Eternal, 2019 and 2020 initial releases respectively and late current gen games.

There's no way a Nintendo handheld can get the latest AAA 3rd party titles.

This whole thread depends on the premise that Switch currently gets big publisher AAA support. But it just doesn't. Currently Switch gets the following support from 3rd-parties:
But the main games from current gen are already all missing on Switch: Jedi Fallen Order, Anthem, Fallout 76, Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil Remake, Final Fantasy XV. So basically nothing would change with the introduction of new consoles. Indies and remasters of old games work as well as before and the big AAA-titles didn't came over anyways. Maybe we would see less of stuff like Doom and Witcher, but that was anyways about once a year a title or so. So doesn't move the needle (although cool). |

Some of the multiplat games Switch missed in 2019: Ace Combat 7 Yes Switch is already missing a lot of third party titles, so PS5/XSX making ports less viable is going to make very little difference. |
Agreed with both posts above.
No more to say.
God bless You.
My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

That is a hard thing to answer

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."
It’s not as if support for Xbox One and PS4 are going to just dry up the moment the PS5 and Xbox Series X come out. Between those two consoles and the Switch will be an install base of over 200 million, so developers aren’t just going to ditch them.
There has been an increased focus on scaleability over the last generation, and there’s going to be plenty of incentive to continue that going into the next one. Switch’s third party support will be fine, at least for a few years.
Radek said: There's still a lot of 2016-2020 PS4 ports the Switch could get once devs shifted focus to PS5. |
Agreed on both counts.
PS3/360 still got crossgen games in 2014 and 2015; this upcoming generational transition will likely play out similarly I expect.
John2290 said: Half the people in this poll are in denial. Switch is dead in the water, not even an upgrade or a new fully fledged hybrid console could keep up with the leap in hardware here. After the initial cross gen period, Switch ain't getting shit on the big budget front but spin offs. It's not feasible. |
Switch is already getting hardly any big budget current gen games, so it won't make a significant difference. It's shown it can succeed without those games, and there's no reason it won't continue to get the lower budget, smaller scale games that comprise the vast majority of its current third party catalog.

That's a different thread then. I doubt indie devs will increase their graphics all that much or follow up on RTing or any of that shit. |
You’re actually the one who’s not quite on topic. The topic Is how third party support will compare after the PS5 launch.
If developers feel there is a market for their games on Switch, then Switch will keep getting games. They don’t necessarily have to be the sort of high fidelity games that can only come out on hardware like the PS5. It’s clear there has been a general market trend away from high fidelity games in the past 15 years that’s been accelerating.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
curl-6 said: Yes, it will still get support, because 95% of its third party support is comprised of non-demanding games such as indies, older ports, exclusives, and other non-AAA fare that will not be based on/restricted to PS5/XSX spec. |
This. I foresee a lot of remasters from the 360-PS3, we are actually getting Metro Redux on Switch now. As programmers and teams get more proficient at optimizations and the hardware I think we will also see some ports or current gen (PS4-X1) games...we did get Witcher 3 after all.

Yeah there's still a couple of PS4/Xbone games I'd like to see ported like RE7 and Nier Automata.

The thread is "will Switch get third party support post PS5?" not "will Switch get PS5/XSX AAA multiplats?"
