Some do less. Holland for example is keeping schools and day cares open for children of people with essential jobs. (From healthcare, to police, stores, transport, media, government). Probably not smart to have these people infecting each other through schools and day cares, just my 2 cents...

Well the alternative is that they stay home from work to look after their kids, thus depriving the country of essential healthcare workers etc.

True, and I guess it's voluntary or last resort when both parents have to work the same hours and no grand parents available to help out. Another problem created by pushing for maximum efficiency where both parents work :/

45 days to peak?! So the beginning of May. I'm from New York and currently visiting family in Florida.

Yeah seems like it. He did mention that if he can get NJ and Connecticut to agree to a lock down he will considernlocking down the state. His reasoning was that if he locks down the city people will go to Long Island,  if he locks down the state people will go to CT or NJ.

Bergen County, NJ is issuing a shutdown of all non-essential business (anything outside of food, medical, gas, attorney, mortician, etc).  This was supposed to go into effect tonight, but the CFO of the company I work for is now being told that the shut down has been delayed to this Saturday.  I would expect other NJ counties to follow suit, but haven't heard anything yet.

424 new cases and 5 new deaths in New York State. 1374 total cases.

Edit: Governor Cuomo just said to expecr us to peak with the number of new cases in 45 days.

45 days, that's half of the prediction for not doing anything at all. Total lock down shouldn't be longer than 2 weeks to peak (for the incubation period to run its course)

Big world, lots of different strategies. We'll know in a month which was the most successful, what was overkill and what was too little.

France is in total lock down, you need a special form to go outside.

Israel urges its citizens to remain home and go out only for “vital needs and services”. Shopping for food is allowed only if no delvery option is available. Parks, beaches and malls will be off-limits. People will be allowed to exercise outdoors for 10 minutes if nobody is nearby

Austria Vienna Airport’s traffic at bare minimum
rail transport down 70%
Restrictions already in place include:
- gatherings of more than five people are banned
- people are urged to self-isolate
- schools and shops selling non-essential goods are closed
- borders with Italy and Switzerland are closed
- no restrictions in place along the border with Germany which has, however, introduced its own border controls
- visitors from Britain, the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine can enter only under certain conditions

Most other countries are closing schools, closing restaurants and banning gatherings over 50 people.

Some do less. Holland for example is keeping schools and day cares open for children of people with essential jobs. (From healthcare, to police, stores, transport, media, government). Probably not smart to have these people infecting each other through schools and day cares, just my 2 cents...

The world as a giant beta test for what to do after the initial wave is slowed down :/

Yeah france is going full on china mode, now.
They have people running around spraying and disinfecting everything too.

Denmark is also telling everyone to stay home unless its "needed" to head out (ei. food/medicine that sort of thing).
Also theres hand sanitiser before entering to super markets, and marked lines you need to stay at in cues when you go shopping.

Its scary if this really is just the start of the spread.
If peaks wont be hit for another 45 days.... damn.

The US cases are ramping up fast, they are over 1,000 cases today with many hours left.

Its very concerning. Most States haven't even given their numbers yet. Im glad that testing is ramping up but things aren't looking good.

The flu and pneumonia have killed 20,000 people in the US just this year alone. 2 and a half months. Colt45virus has killed 80.

Just sayin...

I don't know how they get to those 45 days. It looks like Italy is stabilizing, growth factor for the last 4 days is 1.01x, pretty much flat, yet still 3,500 new cases daily. So it looks like Italy reached its peak in new daily cases 15 days after passing 1,000 cases total. (Which seems to be the point where governments go into full distancing measures) Of course the total active cases will continue to grow for another 2 weeks at least./

In China the daily new cases (first) peaked on Feb 4 (3,800 new cases that day), while the active case load peaked on Feb 17. The data is a bit messy for China though since they had a huge backlog on testing. On Feb 4, China had 23K active cases, taking March 15th for the growth peak in Italy, 21K cases. China peaked at 58K active cases on Feb 17, Italy won't be far behind that number. It's all pretty similar so far. Anyway with the limited data available, Italy's active case load will probably peak around March 28th at around 52K, 29 days after passing the 1,000 total cases.

Of course if the new cases go up again in the next few days in Italy, all the math changes again.

And the grim realization is that when you get the growth rate under control, your active case load is still set to increase by 2.5x. And in China, still 6x more people died after Februari 4th (first growth peak) than up to Februari 4th. Math is not friendly here because if that copies over, almost 12K more deaths can happen in Italy :(

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
