Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon Direct - June 5th 2019 @6am PT/9am EST/2pm BST/10pm JST

I am so ready to see more info on Sword and Shield, I've been ready to play a mainline game on the TV for my whole life. I can't wait to see what new Pokemon they show and I hope the game secures that Nov. 22nd release slot.

Also this will be interesting because Pokemon has never really been a contender at The Game Awards due to it being stuck on handheld. Makes me wonder how it'll hold up and what type of nominations it will get?

Here's where you can watch the pokémon direct this Wednesday, hope it's worth the wait.

Tomorrow!

Keen! Who's ready for 10 minutes of retrospect on the franchise, four minutes of some new gimmick that nobody will actually like, then a minute of the box art?

Five hours left. Okay, what's going to be the gimmick of this generation? 6th gen was megaevolutions, 7th were alolan forms and z moves, what now? Will the armoured versions rumour be true?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm pumped!

Should have called it Pokemon Zzzzzzz

The stadiums shown in the debut trailer will relate to some new gimmick - and part of it will involve online functionality.

I also think we're going to get some large, open field areas with visible Pokemon (random encounters reserved for linear routes and dungeons). The region map is an odd shape, and it looks like a couple of spaces could be freely explorable (by Pokemon standards). I don't think this'll change the progression of the game much, because Game Freak will probably limit where you can go through plot devices and special moves, but I'd like it if we had a couple of open areas to explore. One thing they could do is change which Pokemon inhabit the open areas depending on certain conditions - day/night cycle and seasonal differences (or just weather changes) would be a way of doing it. It'd also tie in to special events, with event Pokemon being available in the field areas over a weekend or something.
