DKC by far. I don't like Yoshis Island.

Don't make me choose: they're all classics!

If we're talking the original DKC versus Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island, by a hair. If we're talking each series as a whole, DKC, by a Donkey Kong Country mile. Because then you include DKC2, which was immaculate. Graphics wise, any DKC game beats Yoshi. Insane graphics for the time, and they still look gorgeous today. Music wise, David Wise did the first two DKC game's music, and those games crush Yoshi on that front, though Yoshi's music was by no means bad (unlike what his series has become today with its garbage music). Gameplay wise, however, Yoshi's Island was the best Yoshi game, barring maaaaaaybe Yoshi's Island DS, and the original DKC was the worst in its series, though by no means bad. So comparing the first games together, Yoshi comes out on top for gameplay. It was so creative and interesting, while DKC 1 was fairly basic by comparison. DKC 2 expanded so much on the first though, so no contest its the better game. I'd even argue that DKC3 is better than Yoshi's Island, but not by quite as much.

While Yoshi's Island was a solid game, and I am a big fan of the Yoshi franchise, but... Donkey Kong Country blew my fucking mind when it was released!

I'd consider DKC 2 a great sequel, it improved on the original in just about every way. But the original I would consider BY FAR the more eventful release. It lacked the megaton feeling that the original DKC had when it broke so much ground it left an asteroid sized crater. It also shook the 16-bit war so greatly that Sega crumbled.

DKC was to SNES like Super Mario Bros 3 was to NES, Ocarina of Time to N64, and Super Mario Galaxy to Wii, Final Fantasy 7 for PSX, and Grand Theft Auto 3 to PS2.

DKC was also the best selling non-bundled game of the 16-bit generation.

Growing up it was pretty close, maybe slightly favored DKC. Now it's DKC and it's not even close. Going back to Yoshi's Island recently, the game hasn't quite aged well at least for me. All the scavenger hunts, annoying baby Mario wailing, and constant clunky aiming your egg can all get a bit aggravating. DKC still holds up for me. I can go back and play that game any time and still enjoy it. Probably DKC2 moreso, though that game is a little more maddening in terms of its difficulty.

Donkey Kong Country is amazing. But Yoshi's Island is my all time favourite game, and has been since I played it shortly after release.

Funny, just yesterday I finished Yoshi's Island for the very first time in my life. While I like DKC and while I didn't enjoy Yoshi's Island as much as other people seem on the internet I must still vote for Yoshi's Island. It has much more charm and variety, but the music is better in DKC.

I don't care for DKC. I don't think its poorly designed per se, I just don't enjoy it.

I much prefer Yoshi's Island. It also aged much better visually.

DKC. Yoshi is one of those Nintendo characters, that i've never been able to get into. Along with Kirby and Starfox.
