Well I don't feel like that and I'm the OP. I just find it stupid in this day and age of equality these double standards exist.

Double standards?

Black people have been complaining about generic black characters for years.

If black people want to complain about a black character because he's boring or whatever then by all means do. But don't complain about him because he's black or because of his sex, or sexuality. These things should be irrelevant when judging people.

Race is part of a character and there are certain basic archetypes based around attributes such as sexuality or race. A generic gay man character isn't the same as a generic black man character. As such, it is not a complaint that a character is black if you are complaining about a generic black character. It is a complaint about the character's adherence to certain archetypal characteristics.

Similarly, if you are to complain about a common archetype featuring white males, it is not a criticism of the race of the character, it is a criticism of how tired the archetype is. Nobody is saying "white character bad", they are saying "I've seen this character 100 times before and it has become boring". This outrage is thoroughly misplaced.

But this has already been explaining twenty times already...

Can you complain when an overused stereotype keeps getting overused?

Can you elaborate?

You can't spell IGNorant without IGN.

This'll be my last response cause I'm tired making the same exact point.

It's not *because* of the race. It's not *because* the days gone character is white. Read what they said. Read what my comment said. I know you're smart enough to understand what's being said.

No one is complaining about a character BECAUSE of their race or gender or sexuality. It's because of the use of character tropes in relation to those characteristics and it's boring.

That's literally it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Bearded Gruffy white guy, angry ghetto black woman, smart glasses wearing Asian. All Over used character tropes that people get tired of. Seriously how difficult is that to understand?

No one, literally no one is complaining about the race of a character here. No need for the outrage, there's knee-jerk reactions everywhere cause a victim narrative is too appealing.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

That really needs elaboration?  Fine.

Imagine a buff black character with street slang.  Now imagine that character repeatedly used over and over and over again.  Would it be ok to start complaining if another game came out with a buff black character with street slang?

Or what about a bald, space marine.  Think about a bald, space marine.  Now imagine that bald, space marine heading up dozens and dozens of games.  Would it be OK to start complaining if another game game out again with another bald, space marine?

Or what about a buxom busted women with attitude.  Now imagine game after game after game after game with buxom busted women with attitudes.  Can we start complaining about the repeated use of the buxom busted women with attitude as a character at some point?

So, can you complain when an overused stereotype keeps getting overused?

You see there lies the issue. Complain about a bald marine all you want but don't bring colour into it. The space marine can be black or white it doesn't matter. My point is colour doesn't matter the personality and their actions are.

The same with a street gangster who likes their slang. It doesn't matter if they are black, white, man or woman. That's not how you should judge people.

This whole thread, among others, has been a clear demonstration of the simplification of ignorance and a lack of reasoning skills. Or they are trying to use liberal/Democratic talking points back at us...race this and sexism that. Or it's straight up trolling...as I suspect of a certain right wing conspiracy theory liking member.

They simplify is such that if you mention race or sex that is must be racist or sexist.  They completely lack being able to reason the context or the the whole concept.  And it's maddening because I know they have the mental capacity for understanding it but it's like they don't want to, choose not to or their cognitive dissonance is just too strong to look beyond.

Thank you for completely proving my point.

How  so

This thread is surreal. It's unbelievable. I want to believe that this is an elaborate joke. Or a troll, I don't know. My mind can't process how someone can be so close-minded and willfully ignorant just to keep defending a political stance in any way possible.

What political stance am I defending?

We've been trying this whole thread. But you simply don't understand racism. You have an exceptionally simplistic idea of what it means. Then when you go to apply that exceptionally simplistic idea of racism it falls apart.

You don't know how to separate your version of racism from a stereotype, trope or cliche.  Which is rather ironic when you think about it.

You can't take the race or sex out of a trope if the race and sex are part of the trope.

Can black people be tired of the angry black woman trope/cliche/stereotype?  Of course they can.  Does that make it racist against black people or sexist against women?  No.  Or racist and sexist against black women?  No. But you are trying to say it is and it's ridiculous.

I know you are capable of understanding this which is why it's so frustrating.  Because it feels like you are intentionally trying to use liberal/Democratic movements back at them without grasping what it all really means.

my point is simple. whether it's racism or not , the skin colour should not be a factor. ok so he is sickofwhite male scruffy and buff biker gang leaders? but if this exact same character was black would it be any more interesting? I'd argue no because the colour of his skin is not something i judge characters by.
