Tagged games:

I think the bigger seller will be...

Animal Crossing 63 42.28%

Pokemon Sword/Shield 86 57.72%

Total:149

Oooooooh shit this is one of those threads isn't It?

...i think AC Will 100% outsell Sworld and Shield, 0 doubt About It.

For the record, i Didn't comment on this thread but i wasn't expecting New horizon to be so big, so i probabily would have voted Pokemon

The early comments didn't age well. Animal Crossing is going to crush Pokemon and every other game not named Mario Kart. This game is a phenomenon.

Not really because as good as AC has sold SS still sold 16m in it's first month and continues to sell the's also no third version this gen it might even already be the second best selling NS game at this point after Mario Kart AC does better in Japan than Pokemon but the latter in other regions often fairs a lot better and even then SS in Japan has still hit more than 4m.

I am sticking to my initial belief, pokemon is still coming out on top

I used to think Pokemon would be the better seller, but now I think it could end up being AC by a hair. Especially since there won't be another AC on Switch while they should be one more Pokemon. They should both sell a bit over 25 million but I think AC will pass slowly Pokemon in a couple years.

Thing is Pokemon pulled those numbers during the holidays and AC is probably pulling similar numbers in the middle of March. Not to mention that AC will certainly have better legs just looking at how past installments in the franchise have held up while we can already see Pokemon slowing down, and the franchise has never really been leggy like other Nintendo IPs.

I don't know, but after playing both I'm definitely rooting for Animal Crossing

I think it depends on the situation. Most of times Pokemon standard generation games are replaced by a re-release (Pokemon Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black/White 2, Ultra Sun/Moon), that's why the games stop selling after some time

I don't know if they are planning a third version for Sword and Shield. I guess no, they are going for the DLC route this time, so maybe Pokemon will have better legs than it used to do

Pokemon has been as leggy as other IPs this is why RBG sold so much the reason it didn't seem as much in recent times is because releases became more frequent with one of the releases being a third version the following year, SS however is going the DLC route which likely forgoes the third version this means that so far everyone who wants their fill of mainline Pokemon is going to get SS as its looking like the game will be supported with new content instead of new versions being made.

SS also isn't really showing signs of slowing down because in the Japanese charts it's still in the top 10 6 months later as well as charting frequently on the western eShop, at this point it might not only be the second best selling game on the platform but the third best selling in the franchise which despite how well AC is doing now is still a high target because even with better legs prior Pokemon games have still outsold them by quite a margin now we have a Pokemon may go on to pass G/S lifetime. I predicted AC to hit at least 20m but even then I still think SS will outsell it.

I’d guess Animal Crossing. The game has already had a larger worldwide cultural impact during this time of crisis and will continue to do so in the months to come. I think the cultural impact alone will make it the more significant game. It’s in the same league as Breath of the Wild, Pokemon Go, and Mario Kart 8 DX, Pokemon Sword/Shield isn’t.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

We will see if the DLC packs will give Sw/Sh a second wave in sales, especially if TPCi continues marketing the games (via the anime, the card game, and the merch) and the upcoming content. It continued for Smash 4 and Ultimate. Plus, even though we assume there’s another set of Pokémon games coming, they haven’t officially announced it yet so if people are buying a Switch and who are interested in trying Pokemon, it’s gonna be either Lets Go or Sw/Sh for the time being.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is doing impressively well. I will not be surprised if it’s first recorded shipments from Nintendo’s upcoming financial report will show numbers similar to Pokemon, Smash, and MK8D.
