Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "The Nintendo fans buy any first party titles"

I remember when these types of threads used to pop up about the PS4 in its first two years. To those who feel the need to justify your purchase, the only person you need to justify to is yourself.

To those who feel the need to downplay Nintendo's success, how quickly you forget how people acted when other consoles were met with similar doubts. I still remember debating against XBox fans who swore Sony was going to go bankrupt and sell off the Playstation brand during the PS3 days, or how the X1 was going to DESTROY the PS4 before the reveal, or the whole "PS4 has no gamez" debacle.

How about we celebrate portable versions of 3rd party Switch games or the success that Nintendo, or any of the big 3 happen to have now or in the future. Alchy was right when he said these threads are popping up too often, but we are all to blame. (and yes, I know I recently made one myself recently)

So as a Nintendo fan, I will enjoy the great games Nintendo makes and use the Switch as my primary console for multiplats due to portability. As a Sony fan, I will enjoy the great Sony games out there and enjoy the 3rd party games that do not come to Switch.

Heck even as someone who dislikes the XBox brand, I look forward to seeing how they handle next gen and hope it goes better than the current gen.

Thats just my 2 rupees...

I think you guys are overreacting to this thread just a bit. It's not like he came out with a bunch of inflammatory statements sounding desperate to prove some childish point.
Reading the OP, seems like he felt bothered with how often this particular myth has been perpetuated and he made logical points to set the record straight. Naturally, 99% of the people who keep spreading said myth are going to ignore this and remain ignorant, but I don't think it's wrong to make this thread if you feel the need.

My reply was also directed at the people spreading the myths and made him feel the need to make the thread to begin with.  I am more addressing the community as a whole (or those that partake in the misinformation anyway) than I am JUST the OP.

I do feel like fans are acting a little insecure right now.  However a large portion of that has to do with feeling annoyed than insecure.  But like I said, this seems to happen to every camp at one point or another.

I don't think people say that in a literal sense.
It's the same when people say that X console doesn't have games... They are trying to make a point.

In this case, i think that when people say that (Pachter also said it before) it's in the sense that Nintendo users only care about Nintendo games and the rest doesn't matter.
Why? Because Nintendo has a ton of meaningful IPs and they sell from good to amazing. Not just that, it feels like Nintendo fans are more open to new Nintendo franchises than new or old IPs from 3rd parties.

When people look at Nintendo's top 10s for their consoles, the majority is Nintendo titles (new or old).
Sadly, 3rd parties not only come in second place, but there are times where they come in a distant second.

While it's true Nintendo fans don't buy every first party title and nothing else, I think it's rather unsurprising that first party sales dominate the Switch software charts when you compare the games.

I mean, third parties have not exactly brought their A-game to the Switch. There are success stories, like Skyrim and FIFA passing the million mark, Crash Bandicoot on its way to join them shortly, the breakout success Octopath Traveler achieved by emulating the 16-bit era of JRPGs that a lot of long-time Nintendo fans grew up with, etc. But these are hardly a match in quality and appeal for the likes of Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, or Smash Bros Ultimate. While there are some good ones, most third party games on Switch are of comparatively poor quality.

Speaking as a Nintendo fan, I'll buy third party games if I feel they've earned my dollar. I bought Doom and Wolfenstein II for Switch on day 1, I plan to buy Team Sonic Racing and Doom Eternal when they release.

I apply the same scrutiny and standards to both first and third party titles. I buy what I consider to be high quality, and on the whole Nintendo simply does a better job of providing that than Activision or Ubisoft or EA, in my opinion.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

What I like about these "I'm going to reply in a new thread" threads is that they allow the OP to create an absolute dichotomy since they don't usually quote individual arguments. That means they can frame the other "argument" as an extreme, which makes it a lot easier to attack and a lot easier for people to climb on the bandwagon. Reminds me a bit of the way tabloids operate. I guess picking out arguments you can win against is the best tactic for group self-esteem but it really is just an illusion.

Another good tactic for self-esteem is to downplay the points of others and ultimately make fun of someone for expressing their opinions in their topic.  This allows one to focus all negative attention on the OP while making one's self feel better without adding anything constructive to the topic at hand.  This too however, is just an illusion...

So you don't think I have a valid point at all?  Or you just wanted to make a completely meaningless post that ignored everything I said?

Labo

First of all, Labo didn't even sell all that much. The highest selling kit stands at just 750k as of November the 17th by VGC numbers. So it doesn't really support the notion that Nintendo fans will buy anything first party.

Secondly, it really wasn't that bad, it was actually quite a clever and creative idea and people have done some really cool stuff with it, it was just overpriced for what it was and not aimed at forum-going "hardcorez" like us.

He's using Labo as an example to support the OP

Ah, since he only used the single word it was hard to infer which way he meant it, and since Labo is generally viewed as pure evil by a lot of forumgoers, I guessed he meant it the other way.
