#33: Today this might seem like a silly concept to base a whole game out of, but just a game of picking up people to drop them off somewhere else was one of most fun times you ever had.

Crazy Taxi?

#32 JRPG featuring a mimic that might be from the previous, unconnected, game in the franchise.

#31 This crossover action RPG is anything but simple and clean.

#30 Another JRPG. On it's first release, feel free to rip wallpapers of the main characters on your PC but remember to the disc back in the console so they can take to the skies and save the world.

31; Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts is correct.

#35 This has to be AM2R

#33 Star Fox Zero?

#31 Need for Speed? It came from the 3DO after all.

#35 and #33 are correct. #31 is a much more recent game than that.

Splatoon for 31?

#33 Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
guessed by Flilix
platform Switch
release year 2017
developer/publisher Capcom
genre action
links Wikipedia

I love Monster Hunter. Preparing for a hunt, learning the monsters behaviour and environments, equip the right gear and  bring it down. It is such an rewarding experience. But somehow Capcom decided that the best platform for this series are handhelds. I love my 3DS, but if a somewhat remote monster is only 3 pixels big it is not cool. This game series must reside on the big screen. That's why last year still Monster Hunter Tri/3G made my list, the last proper classic Monster Hunter on a big screen. But now Capcom has released Generations Ultimate for Switch, and it is the more modern and complete experience. I wish they kept swimming and diving from Tri, but still so much stuff had been added that this is the better MonHun experience. So, let's hunt away.

Okami
(Change YoY: -3)

This is one game I really need to replay one of these days. It's been almost ten years since I last played Okami, and for a game I consider the best Zelda-style game in existence, that's far too long of a time. Even today, Okami is one of the best looking games ever made. The watercolour inspired art style is absolutely gorgeous. The unique gameplay mechanic of the celestial brush was also a stroke of genius that gave the game its own unique flair that no other game has.

If there is one notable weakness, it's the fact that in the original PS2 release, which I played, you can't skip any of the dialogue, making the first few hours of the game a massive chore to get through, as it really feels like you're just running from one overlong cutscene to another. Fortunately, after the first few hours the game opens up and quickly gets really good.

Super Smash Bros. for WiiU
(Change YoY: NEW)

The first new game in my top 50 this year, Smash Bros. for WiiU is basically here as a direct replacement for Brawl. Much of this is entirely because of the improvements made to the gameplay, most notably getting rid of the stupid tripping mechanic in Brawl. It does lack a proper single player story mode, but besides that one unfortunate omission, Smash Bros. for Wii U is (so far) the best game in the series. That may change with the release of Ultimate soon, but right not this is the best possible Smash experience you can have. Playing with up to 8 players at once is just so much fun that very few games can match it.

That is such a beautiful game. And it is still great, after all this time. I rebought it for Switch (because I would be a barbarian if I didn't) and started it up, to see how well it holds up after 12 years. Turns out: as I played instantly for hours although I have beaten the game back at the Wii, it seems it holds up ver nicely.

For the unskippable dialog, this was fixed in the Wii version, but not in the HD-release on PS3. The newer HD-versions on PS4, XB1 and Switch all combine the advantages of all versions, including skippable dialog and filter (configurable) for the rice paper texture, which was missing in the Wii version.

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting the PS4 HD-release for a while now, and almost ordered it for myself for christmas, but eventually went for some other games. I'm gonna get it eventually though.

#36 - It's kinda like Super Smash Bros. now in a way, but it didn't use to be.
- The "SSB-like" content originally came through DLC, but was then included in a re-release.
- It's the 8th game in its series.
- It's "SSB-like" in the sense of having become a crossover. It's got nothing to do with fighting.
- In fact I'm gonna go all the way (because I'm tired of this one) and say it's a racing game.
Now, guessing this has become a race itself.

#32 - This game was notable for releasing on three consecutive generations of consoles.
- Despite this, it actually released on the middle generation earlier than on the first one. The third one only came years later, through a remaster.

#30 - The game that introduced voice acting to this franchise, which it would become highly infamous for in the next entry.
- This game finished a highly acclaimed gaming sub-series, but it's now set to be revived with an upcoming new game.

30 Metroid Prime 3?  (not sure, never played it)
