By the way, the person I thought was most qualified in this election (Marina Silva) is also extremely religious. She only had 1% of the votes.

You think that Marina is "extremely religious". How would you describe Cabo Daciolo? =)

One thing that should change is for the vote to not be compulsory.People that dont feel like voting, or just votes because they need to but have no idea on who to vote should have the choice to simply not be forced to do it.Hopefully thats something that will change.

I used to agree, but if that was the case, Bolsonaro would have been elected already, since he has so many diehard followers while all the other people were undecided between the other candidates. Instead, I think the votes should be weighted based on scholarity - say, they're worth 50% more if you've finished superior education, and 50% less if you haven't finished high school; and if you haven't finished elementary school, you're not allowed to vote at all. It's a little bit of an "unfair" approach, because it can leave many people out, but if our country was any decent, mostly everyone should have finished high school anyway.

You know that if that was the case Bolsonaro would have won already?

While I think people are making a mountain of a mole hill of this rise of fascism in Brazil. I don't think Bolsonaro is the best option for many other reasons, including corruption:
it's beyond me how people want to fight against corruption but choose a guy from a party that has more than 30 members being investigated or convicted by the Car wash operation.
And want changes to the political scenario, get ride of the old politc, but choose someone that has been decades occupying a deputy chair.

Haddad is way more qualified than him in many ways. It just sucks that he has to use Lula's name to promote himself or he would be in Oblivion like Marina.

Wouldn't that disproportionately punish the poor? This and your fear of 'fascism' really makes it seem like you live in an ivory tower and can't relate to the problems of average people.

Well of the 29 USA presidents that served in the military or militias I can only name 3 that were worth a damn.  George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and JFK.  3/29 is a pretty damn bad average.

I think the broader point is that the other 26 did not transform the States into a fascist dictatorship.

@collint0101 Don't feed him. He is clearly being off-topic and trying to spread his usual gospel.

I stand corrected.  Lincoln was in his state's militia.  So that average jumps to an amazing 4/29.

Excuse me for being that insensitive, ignorant American - but isn't Brazil already in god awful shape, economically and in terms of street violence? I mean, how much worse can it possibly get?

It's a bummer because that's actually a place I was considering visiting for a time but based on what I'm hearing these days of the happenings down there I'm starting to think I should stay far away.

Communism.

Any place in the world can go as bad as North Korea or Venezuela.

Whatever is happening or gets to happen in Brazil, I pray to God it never goes communist. We've got already too many communist countries.

I have to agree with you. Democracy... is dead. There's no future here.

Right now though, it's either eloping, hoping for an alien intervention or WWIII and going to a very small locale where you can be safe.

Humanity has lost their namesake.

with all of that said, if you are correct about everything, you better head right out and buy some Weaponry so that you'll be prepared if things in Brazil get too bad.

I'm never using a gun in my life, thank you.

Then you are part of the problem.  Take a look at scumbag dictators throughout history.  Essentially all of them endeavored to disarm the populous as soon as they could.  Why?  Because armed people aren't as easy to control.  If you're willing to cede control of your own safety to a scumbag government, I have no sympathy for you.

Oh, you can be damn sure I have no sympathy for you either.

I haven't asked for any.  I didn't make a post on VGC complaining about fascism, then complaining about the the "fascist" trying to give people the means to defend themselves against their (very bad, according to you) government.

You gotta wake up dude.  You're standing in your own way.
