Forums - Gaming - How Sony became king of consoles again

They won because they just put out a box without obvous flaws while the competition self-destructed.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Around the Network

1 - Great exclusives
2 - Balanced hardware designed for developers

Also some gaming features helped them earlier in the gen: notably Share button (screenshots, video recording, twitch streaming), remote play, share play and finally Play go (quick installs). Those features were so interesting that Microsoft more or less copied all of them on their machine during the gen.

The question of the thread is who is the king of consoles in general.

It's Playstation, I'd say. Not the versions 2, 3 or 4, but Playstation.

Wii had its bubble years and it's beaten PS3. However, PS1 crushed Nintendo, PS2 took the world, and PS4 is on the road to 100m consoles despite all the industry critics saying that game consoles were dead long live the tablet/mobile.

Even though Wii was a huge phenomenon and it did beat PS3 in sales, Playstation is a solid brand with 2 decades of solid wins and recognition. Everybody in the world today can say that Playstation is the standard home console that you can or could find in almost all houses that have a gamer inside. Nintendo, on the other hand, has its ups and downs. People can remember the Wii days, but they don't even know what Wii U or GC is. Nintendo Switch is another up in Nintendo's history so far, even though it's not beating the old beast PS4 even with Mario, MK and Zelda out in a short span of months.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

I think they just took advantage of the massive mistakes MS and Nintendo made, while they fixed their main issues from previous gen, price and ease of development on their console. I give Nintendo more credit for the previous gen because they took a huge risk. Sony took no risks. Hell the MS butchery of the Xbone reveal was so bad, Sony was able to sneak in paid multiplayer and no one cared.

tired old excuse that others made mistakes, sony have no merit.

Comeback? I never felt they were ever away.

I mean they didn’t win last-gen but they still sold about 165m consoles. Now if Atari or SEGA would make a new console that was successful, that would be a comeback.

eh eh you read my mind.  Sony won with PSOne, PS2 and PS4.  PS3 was second in the Global, but won in Europe.  Ok, let's call this a comeback... :D

Basicly PS4 is almost doing what PS2 did, apart from having a much stronger competitor this gen, Nintendo Switch.  So, if we mean "comeback" as Domination, yep, Sony did a comeback.

No need to take risks when you know what you're doing.

Either way, they've played the game better then either MS or Nintendo this gen which is really all that matters.

It's odd that he lists that Sony took no risks then outlined that Sony was able to sneak in paid multiplayer...I mean that is a risk, right?

No, it's not a joke post.

It's a post that speaks facts. Especially about the first half 2-3 years about PS4.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Was an enjoyable documentary. And no, even though it's a PS channel doesn't mean the information presented in the video is biased.

Everything in the video was historically accurate, and currently, PS4 is the sales king by a wide margin. Switch is making a name for Nintendo again after the marketing failure that was the Wii-U (I think the console itself was good, but it didn't lend itself to a massive audience, because people didn't even know what it was). The switch sporadically sells more depending on the week, but Sony's console has sold more in more weeks since the Switch's launch, and I am sure the overall software sales are bigger, because we're comparing a console with a 82 million user base versus one with a quarter of the users. Nothing controversial here.

I'm just puzzled at why the YouTuber pronounces the word "documentary" the way he does at the end of the video.

Is that some regional accent like the way people from upstate New York pronounce "fire"? Or is it just this guy's way of saying the word. Caught me completely off guard.
