I should have precised mainline FF or at least Chrystal Chronicles. Those FF you mention are 2 Theatrythm and FF Explorers, 3 quick cashgrabs, while most of the DQ are remasters. The remasters are also the only ones who got released overseas between all of these games, and they are the leggiest. But like I said, gamers know those series very well and buy them early or not at all, depending on their preferences with the games, something that's simply not true with a new IP.

Pokémon may be aimed at kids... but honestly almost everybody I know who plays those games are adults. It's more that they have a wider appeal than being kids only, really.

You talk about just tripling or quadrupling first week sales without even knowing what the first week sales amount to WW, only how high they are in Japan. They could be 800k+ and then slowed down sharply due to lack of supplies. I really wouldn't rule out 3M+ by your own logic.

I was using the specifics with Japan as the data point because it's the only place we have actual data for. That said, if you think that Octopath sold 800k FW, then there's not much of a conversation we can have. 800k would be a ok guess for sold-through + digital.

We have UK numbers and we have charts for France/spain. OT has legs so far but UK has no supply at the moment. I doubt it was 800k first week

After making mountains out of molehills, we now have making cliffs out of slow declines.

It's a decent game so it's disappointing to see these poor sales. Doubt it gets a sequel now, although I think a sequel, if it fixes the narrative issues could be quite good

I see what you're doing but....

Using a gif from an awesome movie like that along side a contestgamer comment is the biggest contrast I've ever seen :(

Beyond just being nice to see a third party exclusive thrive on a Nintendo platform, its also just nice to see a game with an original style find success. Goes to show there's still a market for quirky medium caliber games that aren't AAA nor indie but rather a happy middle ground.

Not sure if this has any teasing purpose from Square but the Bravely Default Twitter account twitted out their congrats to Octopath Traveler for the 1M milestone ... with this picture ...

Also,

*Although, it doesn't with the Japanese name.

Omg omg I hope Bravely Third really happens

I hope we'll go back to a reversal in the market shifts so that these kind of games can get published/developped more often.

Yeah when I think back, a lot of the games I really liked on, say, the Wii, were mid-tier games, stuff like de Blob 1 & 2, The Last Story, Fatal Frame 2 & 4, Sin & Punishment, etc.

What? What game are you even referring to?

Imagine if GTA 6 sold only 1 million copies. Franchise would be canceled.

So Unipath Traveler, Duopath Traveler, Tripath Traveler, Quadripath Traveler, Quinquepath Traveler, Sexapath Traveler and Septapath Traveler all sold over 6 million units?

They didnt even bother making the first 7. They started at #8 as a marketing ploy so people browsing games would think they've been missing out on some long standing franchise.

We are guaranteed more games cause of OT. The test game is a success. Good job.
