Video games. It's not even close.

They buy expensive things they can’t afford and things they really need like groceries, rent, car repairs/payments, they’re broke and lose their house, car gets repossessed, etc. 

I buy new clothes and shoes only when badly needed or on Christmas, sometimes on birthdays, but mostly used on games.

I only wear suits. I probably buy a new one every year, which costs me around 500 - 1000 €, depending on where I buy it. Them you have your standard stuff like underwear, sleepwear, shoes and so on. All in all I maybe spend 1.500 € a year on clothes. I spend far more on gaming.

Maybe I didn't express myselft that well. Like someone on this thread already said, I think you don't have to spend much to look good. You could spend only $300 a year on clothes and still look great. The only reason why I spend huge amounts is simply because I'm a fashion enthusiast (it's a hobby, like gaming). To be honest, I don't even buy much stuff, only the essential (like 5 shirts, 3 pants, 2 suits + extra stuff a year). My complaint was regarding the complete lack of common sense/self awareness/basic fashion knowledge of 90% of people these days. To be fair, most of them could look much better with what they already spend. 

Yes, they can think differently... if they have any knowledge, or at least an opinion. I'm TOTALLY ok with different styles. For example, I dislike the urban style a lot, but I respect anyone who likes it simply because it's coherent and has some thought/logic to it. On the other hand, most people these days don't even think about what they're wearing. They just grab whatever pops up first, or like you said, "feels comfortable".

But there is a difference between being comfortable and making yourself look much worse than you could. Most high end fashion are extremely comfortable as they're mostly made of top tier materials (like pure cotton, silk, satin, cashmere and crepe). And then there's also budget stuff like Lacoste, Tommy and Calvin Klein that have some quality and comfort to it too. There are plenty of comfortable choices to highlight your best qualities (or at least hide the worst). The only thing needed is basic knowledge and self awareness (to know your physical advantages and disadvantages). In my case, I have skinny legs, so if I chose loose pants, I'd look like a clown. It's basic stuff like that that make a difference.

Not really. One of my favorite briefcases is 9 years old and I'm not dropping it any soon. If you take good care of something, it can really last and shine. 

Actually, I usually spend $20000 per year on clothes, and I only buy some essential items. There are many more ways to spend more. That said, I don't have money issues. lol

You only have to be aware of your cash flow and live accordingly.

I buy most of my stuff at H&M so it's pretty cheap. So I spend more money on videogames.

Generally its games, significantly more if its years I'm buying consoles. But I don't spend a ton on gaming or clothes.

I don't buy expensive clothes. I tend to shop at outlets, online, etc. So I spend maybe $10-20 on an individual item of clothing, I tend to buy shoes for $30-40 if I see them discounted, I like athletic shoes so I lean to Reebok for quality and price.

On a side note, I keep my carb consumption low and I'm vegetarian so I don't eat out much either. I'm a pretty frugal person in general.

Can I ask you what's your job?  You must earn a lot to be able to spend so much on clothes.  

No problem. I'm a novice trader, currently learning and gaining experience in the area with my boyfriend's tutelage. Before my job, my parents used to finance my habits.
