Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wolfenstein 2 on Switch is a good product if you don't care about resolution...

Wolfenstein is graphically impressive, but I think that a less-intensive game that could lock at 60FPS and 720p while undocked would look really nice, I wonder if Metroid Prime 4 will be like that.

Why don't you change the title to

Wolfenstein 2 on Switch, XBOX One, PS4 and PS4 Pro is a good product if you don't care about resolution?

Comparing a 720p shot to a 4K XBOX ONE X shot is the most loaded post I have seen on here.

Hell if you care about resolution so much fork out the cash for a high end PC and play it at 8K and stop being a pretender that 4K is were it's at.

It looks good on that small QHD screen indeed, but if you look at the actual game on a PC monitor at any sort of large res it really shows just how little power was in the Vita in comparison to the Switch, again this looked beautiful at the time but now after playing through Doom2016 on a mobile console it does look dated

as for the images in the OP.... man... I guess at least you don't need to worry about AA on those railings in the top right corner of the image on Switch... perhaps old BJ forgot his contacts? I'm sure it looks good in motion and that screenshot is one of the area's where the dynamic res is at the lower end, but that does look damn rough to stop and stare at but then again it is being compared to the higher end of premium console's graphics.

Hey if people buy and enjoy it, I don't see any harm. Multiple people have commented that the game looks good in handheld and the Digital Foundry guy said it is the best looking mobile shooter.

I am an image quality whore, so I will wait until the price drops or buy the PC version. But I enjoyed Doom on Switch, even after playing the PC version, so maybe I will like this.

Eh, I'd argue Doom looks better. The asset quality is good but its being hidden in the blurry low resolution.

Wolfenstine 2 was arguably the better game though, a more satisfying campaign and large levels. So Wolf 2 is at least the most ambitious shooter on the platform.

So in portable mode you get resolutions equal to PS2 games? Ok.

Screenshot comparison is a big difference, but we're comparing 720p with 4k. Of course it's going to look hilariously different!

Eh... no. The resolution dips below PS2. Also seems to stay below PS2 often in portable mode.

For some reason though modern games just look really odd in low resolutions. Maybe the effects and focus on tiny details don't translate well to 360p-480p, I can't explain it.

It mainly shows the problems that the Switch will have in getting ports of this nature, as time goes on even the PS4 and XB1 are struggling to keep up, which means it'll get even harder for the Switch.

It worth noting this is a game that really pushed X1 and PS4 specs. While it was ~60 fps there were obvious compromises in resolution and picture quality to achieve that. Some games will translate to Switch better than others.

Great results for a mobile effort with those levels of dynamic visuals.
Absolutely horrendous results for docked mode whichever way you cut the cake.

I think they should have leveraged baked lighting and shadowing for a performance uptick at the cost of development time... And then boosted that resolution.
640x360 is pretty bad and not what I would ever consider acceptable in the modern era.

I can't help but think the Call of Duty games on Wii. They made serious visual compromises to bring several CoD games to Wii, it really looked like PS2 in comparison. With Wolf 2 though, it seems like they really wanted to achieve a similar visual fidelity albeit at lower settings. It kinda looks like the 8th gen version but a really muddy version.

I don't feel like this is a game that utilizes the Switch well. It feels more like they just scaled it down until it worked well enough.

Pretty sure the last of us on ps3 at 720p looks better

Not really a fair comparison. That was built PS3 and with a big budget.

Instead, I'd compare Wolfenstein New Order. Lower quality effects and asset, but better resolution and performance. That was a better fit for the specs PS3 and Switch specs.

that doesn't look half bad on the switch. i mean sure, it isn't as pretty as the xbox one but it still looks damn fine for a handheld game.

I actually replayed Killzone Mercenary a PS TV pretty recently. The visuals are actually pretty ugly, OG Xbox has more impressive FPS games.

Killzone Mercenary had a dynamic resolution so it gets really pixelated, textures are muddy, and the character models look like 6th gen quality. It looks okay compared to 6th gen stuff but the Switch easily does better.
