Is adding an air dash really changing the core mechanics of fighting?

It's more than that. It's Dash Cancel, Auto rapid strikes, Ladder attacks, Dodge decay (this one is huge, in Smash 4 you could roll and dodge forever without penalty), short hop attacks shortcut (minor), changes to perfect shielding, more damage in 1 on 1 (will change the flow of battle toward faster matches). Some are more important than others but all together that makes for a very different game.

It's not a straight port obviously, but certainly closer to an enhanced port than new game as of right now. I mean new game means just that, NEW. I'd say only 10% of the game is stuff we haven't played before. To call it a new game would be like calling MK8D a new game.

Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe play the same though. The karts handle the same way and if you already had the DLC the only new part is the battle mode.

I know you're fairly hardcore in Smash, so those seem large to you, but comparing them to changes that are done for this type of release in BlazBlue or Guilty Gear. It's almost just an expectations that small things like that tweaked for the new release.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

They don't fool me, it has the spirit of the Wii U, but for all intents and purposes, it's a brand new game. Doesn't look like it, but it is. If each new FIFA game looks almost exactly the same as the previous one can be so, I don't see how this one can't.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

...I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

(It's a new game, guys).

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is clearly a brand new game.

Why would I want it to be a port? I'd love to know this. Keep in mind I was on team new game prior to the reveal.

I was hoping you could tell me.

Ha nice try, but the burden of making your comment make sense is on you.

It's definitely not a new game, everyone saying that is lying to themselves. Ultimate to Smash Wii U is what Super Street Fighter II Turbo is to Street Fighter II. More of the same, with some new content and mechanics thrown in to keep things fresh.

It's not like you are describing every smash Bros game since Melee.

I can see that we can resume this discussion to "the graphics didn't wowed like previous installments so it's not a new Smash game"

But I got say that the lack of story mode is way underwhelming, I hope they announce it later this year. I want many bosses as possible, The hands and one final villain won't click for me

We reap what we sow

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Marvel_vs._Capcom_3

"It is an updated version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds."

"As an update, the game utilizes largely identical gameplay mechanics to the original. However, both the aerial combat and X-Factor systems, introduced in Fate of Two Worlds, have received adjustments. In addition to gameplay modifications and new playable characters, the game features several aesthetic changes."

The entire 25min video literally shows and talks about what they 'added' and 'changed' from the previous version.

When they showed trailers for Smash on Wii U and 3DS, it was presented as something being shown for the first time, built from the ground up.

We can't simply appreciate that they've made a great effort to rebrand a great game, making it feel fresh and worthwhile for previous owners, while also making it the ultimate version for new owners?

I think you're a bit mistaken here because as someone who plays fighting games the changes they've made to Ultimate are core mechanical and fundamental changes that change the whole game's approach and style if you watch the invitational now you can see the game plays way differently to S4 while BB and GG which I play may add mechanics but the fundamental approach doesn't change in such releases like they have here.

The differences in Ultimate and S4 are like Third Strike and SFV.

^Isn't this gif showing SFV? I really can't tell...

This article sure makes it sound new. The early impressions from people who have played make it seem new. Nintendo say it's new. Guys I think it's safe to say it's a new game
