Forums - Movies & TV - Roseanne got cancelled

ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as looking like the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.” Jarrett, an African-American, was born in Iran to American parents.

Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger voiced his support for the cancellation, tweeting, “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.”

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology that read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

Just after Barr’s statement on Jarrett, Wanda Sykes, who worked as a consulting producer on the first revival season, announced she would not be returning for the show’s next season. Series co-star Sara Gilbert then condemned Barr’s comments, saying, “Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least. This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”

I feel sorry for all the other actors :s.

Not a fan of laugh track comedies so this is actually good news. I just hope all the lame ass new laugh track comedies that Fox has as replacements for The Mick, The Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine get cancelled ASAP.

She had a good thing happening with the show and she just had to open her mouth... Or her Twitter...

Fools and their money are easily parted.

I remember the show Roseanne (the original), didn't know it has been rebooted. I don't know the person Roseanne spoke of in her Tweet so I hold no personal opinions on this specific event.

All I can say is she should have known better. The more famous someone is the more scrutinized his/her statements and opinions will be. It's the only true negative thing about being famous. Everything you say will be analyzed and judged and very easily turned into a shit storm.

It's not so much what she said, it's the fact that she said something that she thought she was going to get away with. In what universe did she think she was going to say that and that nothing would happen. That's what amazes me the most.

EDIT: If I were famous and my face was out there and everything I said would be immediately connected to me and my face on totally NOT anonymous Twitter/Facebook/Instagram etc. feeds, I'd simply NEVER hold opinions, not publicly. You'd never know what I think of anything cause I'd never speak. I'd Tweet stuff but only neutral stuff.

You can't expect someone who holds a position of influence to keep his/her job after tweeting crazy/demeaning things without any regards to whether they are true of not. Right?

Signature goes here!

A shame the rest of the cast and crew now are out of a job next season because of her big mouth. I used to really like Roseanne when the orignal show was on the air, now she seems to have lost all her marbles.

I hope the other actors can recover from this, I'd be pissed at her for sure. But in terms of the show, I'm glad it got cancelled, always hated Roseanne ever since I first saw it.

That stinks, the reboot was great. It made me laugh more than most comedies seem to anymore.

A good chunk of the cast actually has steady regular side jobs.
