Forums - Nintendo - New details about the Nintendo online services surfaces!

The, "and even more games added regularly" as part of the 20 NES games with new online deal has me intrigued.
I'm hoping that they'll move beyond just NES and include SNES, N64, or even GameCube.
Old school Mario Party and Smash Bros. Melee with online? YES, PLEASE!

Even more NES games is likely all it means. SNES was originally part of the plan when the service was first announced but has since been scrapped. N64 and GCN would be freakin amazing but also take actual effort, so I highly doubt it's gonna happen.

What's weird about this is that this is arguably worse than what we had on Wii U...

It seems to be Nintendos motto lately "Do less and charge more for it"

Also, to everyone saying it's cheap, I wouldn't quite say so. It's basically $35 a year per system, unless you only use on a single account - which sure, you can even if you share the console with other people, but it is a nuisance.

It doesn't matter how much it costs. Paying even a single cent for something that was previously free and offers no additional benefits is not "cheap". It's nothing more than donating money to Nintendo.

Or "good business" as some would say.

Annoying that the $20 subscription is tied to the specific account and can't be used by others on the same consoles.

Doesnt bother me though, i wasn't planning on getting it.

the NES selection is rather sad. Always giving us the same NES games over and over xD

good pricing though and cloud saving is a plus

It being a paid service isn't new to me either but it being 35 dollars a year is. That's my sticking point here because Nintendo did not announce that price originally. I can't justify that price on top of what I already pay for my other consoles.

That's for a group of people. The original price still exists but bring for a single user is really the issue.

Maybe it's because I view all massive conglomerates with a cynical eye but, I think Nintendo knew that both Xbox One and PS4 required only ONE user to pay for online, knew they were going to disallow that and intentionally kept it secret when originally announcing the pricing because there's really no excuse for them not announcing it earlier. They know most people are going to have to shell that out and wanted it to appear cheaper initially.

$20/year is pretty cheap IMO...I spend 3 times as much on PS+ and only really use it for Monster Hunter. Curious what games will be added as time goes on.

Yeah yeah...free would be better of course, but this whole thing has been known for a while now.

Right, this is not news at least pricing isn't. Who knows what $20 would net you with PS+ or XBL so for me the online pay alone is worth it. Not to mention...this service almost does everything PS+ normal subs so. A 3mo sub is 25 bucks and you get online, cloud storage of 1GB, and discounts...all of which is being offered with Switch Online. In addition to the NES games.

Free would e better...but nobody else is making online gaming free, Nintendo was doing this for years out of their own pockets. Even if you don't play online, the 20 NES games alone would cost you $100...without online play. For a third of the price as the competition I think this is VERY fair and those who still want it to be free are, to be frank...very cheap.

I fail to see how it's gimped when you get 20 games for $20 a year and they added online multiplayer. If anything else that sounds to me like a major step up then having to pay $8 for just one of those games. And odds are they'll be adding other games from previous systems down the line for virtually free, so I'm not complaining.

I wont argue those other two points though, it's a fair judgement

It doesn't have anything but NES games, and only a select few of them. Online play sure will be useful in Legend of Zelda and many of those other "take-turns" kind of games like Super Mario Bros.

You missed the part where it said more games were coming. The Wii virtual console began with even fewer games than that and ended off several hundred.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I hope Nintendo can continue to stay in business with such competitive pricing. They're really giving it their all for their loyal customers. I hope this risky gamble will pay out for them.
