That's for a group of people. The original price still exists but bring for a single user is really the issue.

Maybe it's because I view all massive conglomerates with a cynical eye but, I think Nintendo knew that both Xbox One and PS4 required only ONE user to pay for online, knew they were going to disallow that and intentionally kept it secret when originally announcing the pricing because there's really no excuse for them not announcing it earlier. They know most people are going to have to shell that out and wanted it to appear cheaper initially.
