How do you feel

XBOX One will get a great... 8 10.26%

I don't care win or loose... 9 11.54%

Ouya master race 6 7.69%

I quit supporting Xbox 35 44.87%

I don't care i own every ... 7 8.97%

see result 13 16.67%

Total:78

I'm an Xbox fan but I'm not feeling good about MS's 1st party.

I look forward to more Halo, Fable, Gears, Forza, and maybe other classic IPs. But they just aren't have much look creating new IPs, although some have been enjoyable.

I can't help but look at PlayStation and think Xbox needs some of what's happening there. However, I have enjoyed numerous X1 exclusives and BC is just magnificent. I really hope MS has big plans we don't know about yet.

I suppose that is what consolidation does for you. Dropping all Vita support to hit PS4's support out of the park is paying off. And to be fair Nintendo is doing the same thing with only going with the Switch for the future.

Of course their are minor investments like PSVR and a few 3DS games out there, but they are miniscule compared to the recent effort put forth into PS4 and Switch.

The thing to remember about Microsoft as a business entity is that their philosophy is about what they want to push, not about what the customer wants. They have goals and plans that they want to dictate to the industry so that it ends up in a place where they have more control. They want to create an environment that is, first and foremost, favorable to them.

They want to be Apple, they want to be Steam. Unfortunately for them, they don't have a monopoly to leverage the way they do with Windows. In the gaming market, the consumer still has a choice, which is why it probably legitimately surprised them when consumers turned against their vision for gaming with the original Xbox One and Kinect.

Now it's GaaS.

They really need to rethink their guiding principles for Xbox. It's fine to nudge forward what you want but that can't be the entirety of your efforts. You still have to offer the customer products that meet their needs and desires or else they'll look elsewhere. At least, that's how it works when there is viable competition.

What Phil is essentially saying is that XBoX fans need to wait.

The truth is the one household device to rule them all , that Bill Gates feared when he learned that PS2 would have multimedia capability  has flown the coop, so today there is no imperative to take them down  a peg ,or play a wrecking role , the fact is unlike Sony who under the world wide studio's banner encouraged their studios to make new IP's,  with the knowledge that every hit subsidises around 7 games, that regardless of whether their  critical scores are high or low lose money or just  break even and Sony see that cross game subsidy being ploughed back into more games allows them to have a larger and more diverse Ist party portfolio, not just in numbers but types and sizes of games.

While continuing popular series is important having your 1st party studios also looking ahead to new ideas adds to the creative mindset of the studios ; and that is something that MS could look at encouraging their successful studios to also workshop ideas for future games  now the majority will fall by the wayside but you can end up with an Horizon and you will find the process gets better the longer it's allowed to unfold , take bungie what would have happened if MS said set up some groups to do future game prototyping while finishing off Halo Reach, like Guerilla did while making Shadowfall there might have been a chance that events played out different.

You never know, but if XB had let Bungie create Destiny, based on how Destiny is doing at this point in time, it wouldn't be much better than things are now for XB anyway, so. This could be part of the reason XB wouldn't allow it, because of the possibility of failure and wasted input costs, but it may also simply be that based on so many recent cancelled games, that MS feels growing XB first parties and IP is an unnecessary cost to accomplishing the overall goal.

Watching how things have played out so far for XB, reminds me of dating. If the girl ends up liking you, she typically will mimic things about you to not only show interest, but create connections that would be meaningful to you. Most of the time however, over time, you end up finding out it's mostly BS, and she's really not into most of those things, and is different than you've come to know, and not exactly on the same path as you are. That is what I see with XB at the moment. They slowly set up their console mimicry, only to then show their true colors, which is not the typical console path, beyond just innovation.

Too many companies use titles, brands, entire sectors, etc, to gain entry into a market, only to end up changing things completely, to accomplish their goal. While you can't know exactly if this is what XB is doing, it most certainly is a possibility. Trying to hold PS back in terms of first and third party exclusives is not only extremely expensive, but almost a lost cause. This has also led to the slow loss of strong third party support and marketing for XB1. Using online and services to do so now, is another story however, since that battle is less decided and still ongoing.

It could be that XB is simply lost and trying to find their way, but based on many of their decisions over the years, after seeing other companies already make some of those bad decisions, it's just hard to believe that it's all just stupid mistakes.

Xbox has been around for nearly 20 years. How much time do they need?

After nearly two decades, we still only have halo, gears, forza, and the occasional second or third party exclusive like sunset overdrive and quantum break, which both totally failed to turn into new franchises for Xbox.

At this point, we may not get anything worthwhile 1P till late next gen or the gen after. Just look how long it’s taken crackdown to come out and we still haven’t seen much of that game since it was first revealed in 2013-2014.

How exactly? The third party support is more robust than its ever been.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Well if you look at the third party support the 360 gained and had in general vs the PS3, then take the type of third party support the XB1 has had vs the PS4, and what the 360 had, it's pretty clear that XB1 isn't getting the same kind of backing the 360 did. This is mostly due to the lack of sales for the XB1 platform in comparison to the PS4, as well as Switch now, and that lack of sales is partially due to first party IP and exclusivity. Many of the top AAA third party titles have also went with PS4 for their marketing because of their larger user base. Just because the XB1X is getting some third party game patches doesn't mean it's got strong support.

Took Sony 10 years? Do what? No, Sony has always been pumping out good 1st party stuff. Sure, they hit a slight stall at the beginning of the PS3 era, which we can chalk up to HD development learning, which also happened to Nintendo.

It's just the same old BS, journalists making excuses for Xbox, just like with the power disparity from the beginning of the gen. MS actually started strong with 1st party development this gen. It's just Xbox is no longer a #1 priority for MS, so they are cutting down on 1st party development and on buying 3rd party exclusives. Maybe they'll try again next gen, but if XB2 experiences a similar fate, they will ramp down, again. And if it performs worse, they may just be done altogether. At least as far as consoles are concerned.

That's a crappy excuse. 😹 Those weren't crap games. They were games people were interested in. MS isn't putting out many games to begin with, so cancelling any games or closing any studios capable of making games for their current gen console is retarded (meaning very foolish). Sony and Nintendo don't really cancel games for being less than satisfactory, they just stay in development longer to address any issues. That's the normal way to handle it. They can cancel any games if they wanted because they produce enough current gen games to offset it. MS needs to produce more games.

So then, what do you suppose is the reason for game cancellations and studio closures?  They just wanted to not have stuff to sell?

Phil or his bosses got impatient. Short term gains vs long term gains. Phil probably has a non-gamer boss who doesn't understand the importance of investing studios and IPs.
