The US isn't as divided as most think. They are divided, but the media blows it out of proportion because that's just what they do. It's their job, and they do it for many reasons and they are very good at it, but make no mistake, it's not as bad as they make it out to be. The fact that most major US media, along with most major worldwide media, all have very similar day to day news with very similar messages, is not coincidence. Same reason why businesses keep the same message and anyone who's part of the business that breaks/changes the message, gets fired most of the time.
Anyone who thinks Trump is just taking all the glory of Obama fixing things after Bush, well you can't really look at it that way. You can either say each prez has done what they have done during their time in office, or that every single prez is simply carrying the torch that the first prez once lit. Sure, Trump does make it sound like he's taking some of Obama's success for himself, but it's no different than Obama taking credit for having to deal with Bush's failures. There will always be some overlap from prez to prez.
Could America survive another civil war? Absolutely. Conservative/Republican America isn't going away any time soon, or ever for that matter. Liberal America's biggest fear should be civil war, because it means major changes to Liberal politics in the US if it ever happens. Worst case scenario, America ends up back where it was around WW2, in terms of politics and citizens viewpoints and behaviors. Much more down to Earth, much less aggressive, and more about America and much less about me, myself, and I. Civil war nowadays is pretty unlikely. If anything, I see the individual states breaking up before physical destruction.
I myself wouldn't be surprised to see a future America that has gone the way of Europe. An America where every state is it's own Country. Europe used to be much larger nations, and over time separated, and still is trying to separate to some degree today. When you have a Country as large and prosperous as the US, it's extremely difficult to keep it all unified and stable, especially as inequality grows. Constantly hearing about states like Texas wanting to go their own way, and now early talks about California potentially splitting, I don't see this as an if but when.
Whether or not complete Globalism is the right answer to the worlds problems is highly questionable, but it's extremely clear that the people are far from being ready for something like that. This push to globalize may be necessary, but needs to be done in a less aggressive manner if it's ever going to happen. Pushing too hard to unite everything too soon, can backfire and lead to splitting the world more than it already was before.
