Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Vita has all of the features you wish the Nintendo Switch had.

The Vita is a great system and the Switch has all the potential to be one as well.

What hurt Vita the most was Sony focused on home console such as the PlayStation 4 for its major releases. There was no Pokemon equivalent on the Vita. Now that Nintendo has a unified library I can play their best and latest games on the go, it's amazing.

Bluetooth headphone support?
-I could take it or leave. i dont even have a pair of bluetooth headphones

*I do. They're awesome!

Wallpapers/Themes
-you got me there, although this isnt really a deal breaker. also signs point towards that being a thing very soon

*Can't wait! Hopefully we can use our own pics and not just a few themes. Every other console besides the 3DS lets us use pics from the web.

Built in voice chat
-the mobile app is not as bad as people say it it. it needs work, but it is perfectly usable

*Have it downloaded but I never use it.

Web browser
-the Switch as one its just a bit harder to access, but it also isnt really necessary since everyone has a smartphone of some kind with internet access

*I'd mostly use it for porn. The PS4 and Xbox One browsers suck compared to the WiiU interface, even without the screen. I want it for the Switch with exactly the same interface!

Netflix and other streaming services
-it doesnt have Netflix, Amazon, or Youtube yet, but it does have Hulu.

*True. And I doubt I'd even use other services if it do it have them. Maybe a YouTube Red (video downloads  areawesome!) but that's it.

Folders
-fair point

Lock screen password/PIN
-i never needed one for a console before, so

*I take mine to work and I don't trust anyone

Camera
-i really dont think anyone cares

*You're right.

Backwards compatibility
-losing backwards compatibility was a necessary evil, but fair point

*I know.

Downloadable library of old games
-they will come... eventually

*agree

Cross Console purchases
-this would be a fair point if the Switch and 3DS had the same games, which they dont

*Virtual console games or discounts for games that we already purchased would be nice. Other consoles offer it (ie: Flower on PS4 or Castle Crashers on Xbox 360/XBO)

Messages
-Discord exists

*what's that?

Luckily, I agree with you. Most of the features a have been confirmed as coming soon. I do where headphones everywhere I go (two sets, actually) and I wish they worked with my Switch. I never wanted a pair until I got some for free. Now I can't live without them!

It's okay if others don't. Traditional headphones work just fine.

Many of these features seem redundant. On the go, the Switch will not replace my phone. So any streaming/media/camera features are just things I already have in my pocket by default. If I'm playing at home, same deal. I can use my phone or any number of devices I have hooked to my TVs. I don't understand the need to have every single device do everything all the time.

Backwards compatibility and VC are really the only features I would like to see. And even then, the BC would have to apply to digital purchases, which I do not have many of on my Wii U. And I'm not selling my Wii U, so I really only care about the portable aspect of BC.

Actually the PSP had more features than the Switch has at the moment... just putting it out there.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

And the vita kinda failed because it tried to do everything in a world with galaxies and iphones instead on focusing on games

Aside from streaming services and a camera, I think almost everything I named was console specific. I like customization.

Besides, the point isn't if they're redundant. The point is these are features people are asking for (add cloud storage to the list) and the new device doesn't have them while a much older console does.

This. Unless the Vita or the Switch or whatever portable device you have is replacing your phone (meaning it makes calls) the extra need for all that is redundant. Everyone's shiny new phone will be more powerful, faster, have a better screen ect than any portable gaming system.

Do people not realize these are $1,000.00 phones. (Yes, mark-up cause they can trick people into thinking they aren't paying out the ear by trade-ins/renting)

A couple of the Vita features I would like and think is strange and outdates, such as Bluetooth headphones and whatever Nintendo's voice chat is. BC unfortunately had to be a sacrifice as formats changed. I would rather have carts and lose bc than have cd's be in this handheld.  The rest of your list is basically just UI stuff that isn't a big deal or something I have a phone that can do it better or some other device if at home again can do better.

People are saying "I have a phone".
How does that negate being able to see your friend playing Mario Kart and sending them a message? I have friends on my console (from this very site) that don't have my phone number or anything.

I'd like to be able to lock my console in case it's stolen or somebody messes with my game saves.

I'd like to look up a level of a game on YouTube when I'm stuck without searching for my phone.

I'd like my console to have personality when I boot it up.

I'd like my games to be in alphabetical order.

How does a phone help with 90% of the stuff in the OP?

Off the shelf memory cards. Nothing else matters.

Sony could 're-launch' the vita if they just let the memory stick-duo die.

I think at least these three features will be implemented on the Switch at some point, in future updatings..... Although I expect the third one - what would be the virtual console - to be a dissapointment
