Forums - Nintendo - Would you buy a Resident Evil 7 Switch port?

Yes, I realize the switch can be played on a TV. Problem is, I don't think switch could handle it and there is no point in playing inferior multiplats when superior PS4 and Xbone versions exist.

I don't own a PS4 or an Xbox One. But I do own a Switch.

This thread is full of RE4. Don't you already have the game on at least one other platformer? (For most of you I expect at least 2 platforms)
I don't really get it. I hope you aren't the same folk that complain about HD remasters, yearly sports games or CoD.

RE7 would actually be a new(-ish) game, while RE4 is playable on every toaster.

I bought Batman Arkham City at least four different times. Maybe five! I don't mind re-releases.

I didn't even buy the version already out cause i can't stand First-person. I'm totally uninterested in the series until it goes back to 3rd person.

You might wanna ask the mods to remove your username's middle letter, then it'd be a perfect abbreviation for 'narrow minded'.

If "narrow minded" meant "without preferences". Sorry that it upsets you that i have a taste of my own. I'm not a Mary go round.

I respect your opinion but I felt the same way you did when I originally saw the game. The demo made me a little more confident that RE7 could be okay. It really did end up being a fantastic experience. You might be surprised.

No.

I played Resident Evil when it first launched on PS1 and became a massive fan of the franchise until RE4 when it became something entirely different. RE7, like RE4 before it, is not, in any way, shape or form, a Resident Evil game. It is a new IP with the name Resident Evil and some themes slapped on to sell more copies.

You clearly haven’t played the game, and center your opinion of it on the change from third person to first person gameplay.

Because I, too, have been a fan of the series since 1997, and VII is the closest to the roots the games have been since Code: Veronica.

Define "roots". I'm talking music, gameplay, puzzles, structure. I'm not talking themes. RE7 is Capcom going "Hmm, this game Outlast is doing well. I wonder if we slapped RE on top of something like that, if people would buy it again". And... you did. Bait taken. Goal accomplished.

When they make another game that PLAYS and FEELS like Code Veronica or RE 2, I'll jump right back on board. But part of me knows that is never going to happen.

Resident Evil 7 should be doable on Switch without much trouble to be honest; it's 1080p/60fps even on Xbox One.

Lower the resolution, maybe cut the framerate to 30fps, get an extra million or so sales.

Then again, it's Capcom, they seem allergic to giving the Switch decent support.

You just confirmed what I already said. You have no idea what the game is and how it plays like. It is nothing like Outlast outside of the first person view. It follows the structure of past RE titles (with backtracking, no less), has the same kind of music and atmosphere, puzzles just like the rest of the series, etc. You even have a difficulty mode in which you need cassette tapes (which act the same way as ink ribbons) to save.

You point those elements out as those you wish to have in a RE game, yet they're all there. The only change is, again, the first person view. Which is clearly clouding your judgement about the game. Taking it for something it is not. Play it, and then come back to tell me I took a bait [lol].

I know your mind is made up but this game really is  old school Resident Evil except in first person. I'm like you. I have every mainstream RE since the '96 original. I still have it!

Unlike you, I kinda got tired of the original "tank control" puzzle style after I finished Code Veronica on Dreamcast (before I played RE3 on PS1). I imagine games like Dino Crisis and Fear Effect factored into my fatigue. I was ready for RE4, Revelations, etc.

But back on point, RE7 isn't Outlast, Condemned, or any other first person horror game. About an hour in it is unmistakably Resident Evil and it's fantastic.

yea but capcom engine isn't isn't anywhere as scalable as doom's engine.

Capcom's previous flagship engine, MT Framework, was flexible enough they could develope for 3DS as well as all home systems. Their engineers are likely skilled enough that RE Engine could be moved to Switch, should need be.

See, i don't say the game is bad. I'm sure it's good for those that like that kind of experience. It just isn't to my taste. Like, it doesn't pull me at all (like for example a CoD game doesn't either). I feel apathetic towards it. It doesn't have that RE feel that used to pull me in and looks like a side story. I just prefer to play other things with my free time.
